The course may utilize materials from a test preparation company such as Kaplan and will be supplemented by American Association of Medical Colleges ( AAMC ) materials and direct instruction. The course will cover all four sections of the MCAT exam, with separate instructors teaching each of the three other sections. The curriculum materials have been developed in partnership with Penn, where classes will occur. These classes aim to build on students' prior coding skills (e.g. from our summer BLI Intro & Intermediate Java classes and/or classes from students' schools) to motivate and prepare them for the AP Computer Science A exam, and ultimately for success in tech majors and careers. They will work with the Director and Coordinator of STEM Pathways and Computer Science consultant. Heights will hold small-group instructor orientation and training meetings for AP instructors in mid-October once staff are cleared to begin working. These instructors will co-teach at Penn (Sat. or Sun.) and Heights (Center City, Wednesdays) from Oct. 22 - May 6. The program will be on winter break from Dec. 13 - Jan. 11, aligned with finals and winter breaks for colleges like Penn. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel on the range and securing SSI and SPII information during and after requalification sessions. HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact at the training venue for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) and is the on-site training manager for the program. LFIs conduct all classroom instruction; delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief; introducing and describing new equipment; and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing. The LFI ensures a minimum number of SFIs are present to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session. The LFI must ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions. The LFI is expected to maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive at the venue to the moment they depart. Upon students? arrival; the LFIs must verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection. The LFI is responsible for ensuring proper scoring of targets; completion of applicable administrative forms; and collection of training data. The LFI is required sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify. Failure of an FFDO to qualify also means that an authorized FAMS Representative and/or LFI takes custody of the unloaded weapon; transport device (lockbox); credential and other equipment for return to TSA/FAMS. If no authorized FAMS representative is present to receive the equipment; the LFI shall make immediate verbal notification to the FFDO Program Office in order to make the appropriate arrangements to return equipment and credentials. The LFI must keep all Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and Sensitive Personally Identifying Information (SPII) secured appropriately both during and after a re-qualification session in compliance with the TSA MD 2100.2; Privacy and Information Collection Policy and TSA MD 1400.3 TSA Information Security Policy. The LFI is oversees time keeping of all SFI labor hours. Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce understanding of complex physiological and anatomical concepts. Ensure all activities comply with college safety, ethical, and academic integrity policies. Required Skills / Abilities Ability to engage students through active, experiential learning. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Technological proficiency, including familiarity with Canvas, Microsoft Office 365, and Zoom. Ability to adapt to different instructional modalities and troubleshoot technical issues. Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, including handling biological models and chemicals safely. Qualifications Master's degree in Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, or a closely related field strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, or a closely related field required. Prior college-level teaching experience (lecture or lab) strongly preferred. Experience with nursing, allied health, or pre-medical students highly desirable. Knowledge of pedagogical best practices and evidence-based teaching strategies in the sciences. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods during lab instruction. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds of lab materials or equipment. Prolonged periods of walking, bending, or moving within lab spaces. Use of protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and lab coats as appropriate.
