Music teachers must have a good musical foundation and must be able to sing well, read music, and be able to teach the basic building blocks of music (but do not need to play an instrument). You must be very comfortable being silly in front of a group of parents and kids and encouraging them to be silly with you. School readiness classes are a wonderful way for education majors to gain experience in the classroom with shorter and smaller classes, and no assessments! Life experience, dependability, responsibility, and personality count more than previous work experience for the instructor position. However, previous experience with children and in retail sales or customer services is strongly preferred.
