ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR - READING
Chugach Government Solutions, LLC 4.7
Instructor job in Gulfport, MS
About Us When you work at Chugach Government Solutions (CGS), you join a proud legacy of supporting missions while sustaining culture. The federal division of Chugach Alaska Corporation, CGS has been supporting critical missions as a government contractor for over 25 years. Our focus is to support facility maintenance, IT/technical services, construction and education. We are proud to have built, and continue to foster, an incredibly talented team spanning across the globe in hundreds of different fields - each team member proud to serve our country with first-class business services, while also making a difference for our Chugach shareholders.
At CGS, empowering employees is a part of our core, and that focus is one of the ways we build and foster high-performing teams. We empower our employees through competitive compensation and benefits package, professional growth opportunities, truthful communication, and more!
If you are looking for an opportunity to serve something bigger than yourself; if you want your day job to be one that creates meaningful value; if you are looking for an environment that highly values employees and respects individual differences - then Chugach Government Solutions may be the right fit for you!
Job Overview
Responsible for providing integrated academic instruction to students that meets academic competencies listed in the PRH. Provide students with basic direction, in compliance with government and management directives.
We're looking for talented educators who are passionate about making a difference!
Job Corps is a federal program of the U.S. Department of Labor. Our mission is to provide education, vocational training, and career development services to young people between the ages of 16-24.
The Gulfport Job Corps Center serves students pursuing their High School Diploma or career training in the Medical Administrative Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, or Electrical trades.
We're proud to share that we were recently selected to host a new Advanced Training program, attracting students from Job Corps centers across the country. Additionally, we've just moved into a brand-new, multi-million-dollar facility - an exciting time of growth and innovation for our team!
While the core instructional function for students in Reading, Math, and High School Diploma classes is similar to the traditional school system, there are some differences between the operational functions of our program including:
* Job Corps Instructors teach smaller groups (usually 18-20 per class), tailored to a student's specific progress rather than following a class/grade progression model. This individualized approach requires more fluid and responsive planning, adjusting schedules to meet the unique needs of each student.
* Our core business hours are 7:45a-4:45p Monday- Friday. Class time is 8:00a-3:25p with a lunch period for Instructors.
* Because we're a job training program, we operate on a year-round model. Traditional school teachers work on an academic calendar that includes a summer break and shorter breaks during the year, although many school districts are moving toward the year-round model.
Traditional teachers often work beyond school hours, spending extensive time on lesson planning, grading, parent communication, meetings, extracurricular activities, and other types of student support.

Job Description Summary
Why Teach at Mississippi Governor's School
Mississippi Governor's School offers a rare opportunity to teach in a fully immersive, residential learning environment with students who are highly motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to engage. This is not a lecture-driven experience. MGS scholars arrive expecting to participate, explore, question, build, and create. Courses are intentionally designed as hands-on, experiential learning experiences that emphasize inquiry, collaboration, discussion, and real-world application. Faculty are encouraged to design learning that actively involves students through projects, simulations, labs, design challenges, performances, field-based exploration, or other creative approaches aligned to the course topic. A modest instructional budget is available to support materials, supplies, and experiential components.
MGS courses are in-depth, content-based studies that move beyond traditional high school and core university coursework. Strong courses reflect interdisciplinary connections, push students to think critically and creatively, and explore ideas not typically addressed in standard curricula. Teaching at MGS is an opportunity to try new approaches, teach boldly, and engage with students who genuinely want to learn.
Faculty consistently describe the experience as professionally energizing and deeply rewarding, offering the chance to do something different and create a meaningful learning experience for both scholars and instructors.

Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. What We're Looking For in Course Proposals
Mississippi Governor's School seeks course proposals that reflect bold thinking, interdisciplinary connections, and hands-on, experiential learning designed for highly motivated students who expect to be active participants rather than passive listeners.
Strong proposals will demonstrate the following:
* Clear intellectual focus
The course explores a well-defined topic or question with sufficient depth for a two-week immersive experience and moves beyond traditional high school or introductory college coursework.
* Hands-on, experiential learning design
The proposal includes meaningful projects, activities, simulations, labs, design challenges, performances, or applied experiences that actively engage students throughout the course.
* Interdisciplinary thinking
The course intentionally connects ideas across disciplines and shows how different fields, perspectives, or ways of knowing intersect.
* Engaging facilitation approach
The course is designed for discussion, collaboration, inquiry, and exploration, with clear evidence that the instructor can pace learning, adapt in real time, and respond to student curiosity.
* Alignment with the MGS theme: "Voices"
The proposal thoughtfully integrates the annual theme and explains how students will explore, examine, or amplify voices through content, discussion, or creative work.
* Student-centered assessment
Learning and growth are measured through participation, reflection, collaboration, and completion of meaningful work, consistent with a pass/fail, engagement-based model.
* Compelling student-facing description
The narrative description is written for students, not reviewers, and clearly communicates why the course is interesting, different, and worth choosing.
* Feasible and well-organized plan
Activities, materials, and pacing are realistic for a three-hour daily course over two weeks, with thoughtful use of the available instructional budget.
* Culminating peer-facing project
Each course should intentionally guide students toward a culminating presentation or product shared with the broader MGS scholar cohort at the conclusion of the program. Faculty are expected to scaffold the project, while students take the lead in shaping, creating, and presenting the final work.
In short, Mississippi Governor's School is seeking proposals that are creative, rigorous, engaging, and intentional, and that reflect the unique learning environment, leadership expectations, and student-driven culture of the program.
