RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leads daily functions and activities of the department to assure efficient workflow and services are provided in a competent and timely manner.

• Serves as a liaison and resource for requests and questions regarding decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of all basic and specialized complex instrumentation and troubleshoots equipment or product failure.

• Performs instrumentation processing to assure cleanliness and sterility of instruments and trays for medical center units/departments.

• Performs duties in accordance with Body Substance Isolation, regulatory standards, department and medical center's policies, procedures and protocols, accepted techniques, and manufacturer's guidelines as applicable.

• Serves as a preceptor for all new hires.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to maximum weight of 50 pounds, pushing/ pulling usual weight up to maximum 50 pounds, carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent education.

• Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.

• Academic background with courses in general and biologic science preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Two (2) years sterile processing experience, preferably in a comparable medical center.

• Experience to demonstrate the following:

o Good working knowledge of procedures relating to sterile techniques and processing, infection control, supply, and inventory control.

o Familiarity with medical supplies and instrumentation in an acute care setting.

o Prior customer service experience.

o Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

• Prior experience with computers and automated systems preferred.

We are currently recruiting for a **Reliability Instrumentation Specialist** . This position reports on-site at the Sasol Lake Charles Complex and reports to the **Reliability Engineer Instrument Maintenance Lead.**

**Purpose of Job**

Executes the instrument regulatory compliance and reliability improvement processes for assigned operating entities.

SME for plant-specific instrumentation applications as assigned.

Works closely with the unit, maintenance, & technology supervisors/engineers to define improvement opportunities and maximize instrument safety and reliability.

In addition, works with other discipline peers to deliver a results-oriented Reliability Centered Culture.

**Key Accountabilities**

The efficient and effective delivery of Instrument Reliability Services by:

+ Providing Subject Matter Expertise for all instrumentation issues within the assigned units

+ Providing direct support to Maintenance and Operations in driving unit reliability and operational availability

+ Ensuring units maintain compliance with all Instrument Regulatory requirements. Drives to minimize CTO waivers and provides strategies to support the continued operation

+ Ensuring relevant I&C Reliability Procedures are current, relevant, and in accordance with RAGAGEP and Industry Standards

+ Maximizing reliability while minimizing the life cycle costs for instrumentation assets to include PM/PdM strategies, spare parts evaluations, and defect elimination

+ Preparing and communicating Instrumented System Health Status to extended team as required to support the Reliability Department's overall communication strategy

+ Adhering to the Electrical & Instrument Reliability budget

+ Leading all elements of bad actor identification and resolution for units of assignment and communicates results to the organization.

+ Drive implementation of reliability improvement plans to increase MTBF and eliminate repeat failures for assigned units.

+ Supporting the development and execution of the Instrument Reliability Mechanical Integrity Program and site Process Safety Management Procedures.

**Formal Education**

+ Relevant Technical Certificate in Instrumentation (minimum required)

+ Associate Degree in Instrumentation (preferred)

+ Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (preferred)

**Working Experience**

+ 6 (six) plus years of practical instrumentation equipment experience in an industrial facility with increasing levels of technical competency and proven responsibility to lead reliability initiatives and drive improvement

+ Or, Relevant Associates Degree or Engineering Degree with 8-10 years of Instrument and Controls systems work experience preferred

+ Or, Entry Level with Bachelor Science Electrical Engineering from an accredited university

**Purpose and Scope**

Perform all aspects of instrument maintenance, calibrations, qualifications, performance verifications and software qualifications of Laboratory instrumentation in compliance with cGMP and regulatory requirements.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Coordinate the evaluation, purchase, and installation of new instrumentation and associated software.

+ Be the single point contact for instrument related issues for internal staff and vendors.

+ Plan, initiate, setup, and perform instrument qualifications adhering to regulatory requirements, cGMPs and Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

+ Work with Validation and QA to ensure compliance with cGMPs and internal SOPs for validation/qualification activities.

+ Repair, troubleshoot and maintain the validated state of laboratory instrumentation under cGMP requirements.

+ Coordinate the maintenance of log books, qualification records, and associated documents to comply with regulatory requirements, cGMPs and Company SOPs.

+ Maintain an inventory of parts for all instruments and equipment.

+ Support the laboratory management in writing SOPs, work instructions related to instrumentation and laboratory equipment.

+ Participate in required annual hazardous waste training. Hazardous waste involvement may include, but is not limited to container and tank management and inspections, generation of hazardous waste as a part of production or sampling processes and transfer of hazardous waste between lab procedure area, satellite accumulation and storage. Respond to spills per the Chemical Spill Procedures.

+ Perform other duties as business demands.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**

+ Technical and mechanical aptitude in handling scientific instrumentation.

+ Understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 concepts required.

+ High level knowledge of hardware and software of routine analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC and others as needed.

+ Aptitude to acquire new knowledge in instrumentation and validation practices in accordance with technological advances, current industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

+ Ability to assist junior analysts with instrument related questions as needed.

+ Experience in formulating instrument validations through DQ, URS, IQ/OQ/PQ's and life cycle management of instrumentation through appropriate maintenance procedures and change controls.

+ Ability to follow oral instructions, written production procedures, validation protocols, and work instructions/SOPs and sequence tasks as required.

+ Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 9 hours or more).

+ Ability to meet gowning requirements. May include shoe covers, lab coat, gloves, beard cover (if appropriate), and safety glasses.

+ Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently and cooperatively on a team.

+ Accountable for maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork, cordiality and respect towards co-workers.

+ Ability to interface with all sections of the Quality Organization in resolving validation and compliance issues.
