We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Instrument Technician with the Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Wichita, Kansas.

Essential Job Duties :

Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.

Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all plant instrumentation equipment, control systems, and analyzers.

Responsible for prompt and accurate diagnosis of minor problems and the implementation of corrective action. Consult directly with equipment vendors on problems for resolution as necessary.

Set up and operate limited types of shop tools and specialized test, measuring equipment and hand tools utilized in any phase of machine installation or maintenance.

Conduct evaluation tests on valves, motors, instruments, etc.

Must be proficient in troubleshooting 24volt DC/120 volt AC controls and switch gear.

Research specifications for materials, testing and repair of instrumentation and electrical equipment.

Trained and qualified to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, man-lifts, etc.

High School Education or GED required.

Minimum three (3) years technical experience.

Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team.

Must be proficient in troubleshooting using loop drawing, schematics, ladder logic, electrical one-line, and P&I drawings.

Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.

High proficiency in Microsoft applications.

Ability to read, write and speak in English.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.

Must possess valid driver’s license.

Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Additional Desired Qualifications

Additional chemical plant or manufacturing experience is preferred.

Good working knowledge of SAP

Technical degree in instrumentation from an accredited technical college or completion of an approved state apprenticeship in instrumentation.

Position Description

Primary purpose: Responsible for the successful installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and instrumentation components associated with facility and equipment related to conveyance, storage and handling of materials. Essential duties and responsibilities: • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. • Problem solver and creative thinker in order to provide solutions to improving the equipment performance. • Advise terminal management of progress toward objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments. • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blue prints, technical manuals, operational manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use. • Through inventory tracking, ensure that critical needs for parts and services are available. • Maintain preventative maintenance program and software. • General overall maintenance and cleaning of facility. • Accept supervision and effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, KM staff and others as required. • Other functions as trained and assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: High School degree or equivalent is required. A 2 year degree in a related technical field is preferred. Experience / specific knowledge: • A minimum of 5 years of previous successful work experience industrial maintenance is required. • Experience maintaining heavy industrial rolling equipment (front-end loaders, dozers, cranes) and/or conveyor systems is preferred. • Previous experience in the use of a preventive maintenance tracking program is preferred. • Mechanical engineering background experience is preferred. Certifications, licenses, registrations: • The incumbent must meet the criteria to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) as required by USCG/DHS regulations. • Southeast regional travel may be requested, per business needs. If needed, must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements. Competencies, skills, and abilities: • Good oral and written communications. • Must be proficient in the use of computer and applications (Microsoft Office, database, and internet search engines). • Ability to perform job duties with little or no supervision. • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Ability to work safely and direct the maintenance department to work safely, with an emphasis on following procedures and best management practices. • Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism. • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
