Insulators are responsible for the installation and/or removal of insulation of any component onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization. Measures, cuts and/or fabricates materials for insulation application to bulkheads, overheads, piping, ducts, machinery and equipment to reduce loss or absorption of heat, prevent moisture condensation, and to deaden sound. Performs related tasks as assigned some of which may become essential to the position.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills · 1-4 years' experience in all facets of lagging and insulation in the commercial and or Industrial Environment.
* Must have knowledge of many different types of insulation and its appropriate use
* Basic math and measuring skills; fabrication and installation of removable covers; reading specifications and blueprint; cutting miters for all piping insulation.
* Must comply with Company safety rules and OSHA standards.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a DBIDS pass.
* Must be able to use hand tools, power tools and shop machinery safely and efficiently
* Must be flexible to working all shifts (1st, 2nd)
* Must have own tools

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills · 1-4 years' experience in all facets of lagging on military or commercial vessels.

* Knowledge of piping systems, ship layout, layout patterns for hull boards and lagging materials
* Knowledge of application of insulation on board ships for types of piping, machinery and ventilation systems

The Insulator will work in our Insulation/Sheet Metal department. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment. 1st, 2nd and 3rd class levels are based on proficiency, knowledge, skills and abilities. Candidate must have own tools.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Brushes adhesives on or attaches adhesive-backed pins to flat surfaces as necessary to facilitate application of insulation material.
  2. Measures and cuts insulation material to specified size and shape for covering flat or round surfaces, using tape measure, knife, or scissors.
  3. Fits, wraps, or attaches required insulation material around or to structure, following blueprint specifications.
  4. Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
  5. May cut shaped wooden or fiber strips to lengths for wedges, using band saw.
  6. Applies insulating material to exposed surfaces of structures, such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and cold storage rooms: Reads blueprints and selects required insulation material, such as fiberglass, foam rubber, styro foam, cork, or urethane, based on material's heat retaining or excluding characteristics.

Job Summary: --
MOR PPM Inc. seeks an insulator located in Franklinton, NC. Insulators must apply insulating materials to pipes or ductwork, or other mechanical systems in order to help control and maintain temperature. This is an Full-Time position that offers benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: --
Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use.
Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives and scissors.
Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
Select appropriate insulation such as fiberglass, Styrofoam, or cork, based on the heat retaining or excluding characteristics of the material.
Distribute insulating materials evenly into small spaces within floors, ceilings, or walls, using blowers and hose attachments.
Fill blower hoppers with insulating materials.

Qualifications: --
Minimum three (3) years' experience Industrial Insulating experience.
Four (4) years' experience in power plant or maintenance experience preferred.

Physical Requirements/Job Site Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
Must posses enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
Must be able to move in and around confided spaces and uneven areas
Must have full range of motion consistent with age
Must be able to climb and maintain balance ladders
Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms and other job-related noises
Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces
Safety/Steel toe shoes are required.
