1949

The insurance companies served by this industry generated a combined total of about $500 billion in premiums from customers in 1993.

1994

In 1994, $1.1 trillion worth of life insurance was purchased in the United States, while $11.6 trillion was currently in force.

1996

Health reform legislation in 1996 provided a boon to health insurance agents.

The process began with the Supreme Court's 1996 Barnet Bank decision, which allowed banks to begin selling insurance in small towns in the United States.

1998

The Insurance Services Office (ISO) reported that premiums written-to-surplus ratio as of December 31, 1998 reached a record low of 0.84-to-1.
