Colin has over 15 years’ experience as an engineer working in the naval architectural field. Colin is experienced in the application of naval architectural practices for the offshore oil and gas, marine and defense industries. Colin has been involved in working on FPSO, frigate and floatover studies, large module transports, etc including undertaking lead roles in mooring design, motion analysis and offshore installation. Colin has experience in the design of floating facilities from a mooring design, motion response, and ship stability perspective.

Colin also has extensive experience managing deliveries from engineers and subcontractors, through managing the Hydro group at AMOG Consulting, engineering manager for the WDA pipelay bagre \'Nebula\' (including construction and operating support), and taking the Lead Naval Architect role for WorleyParsons on two large offshore projects, Hebron and Arkutun-Dagi. Colin Paton is also discipline lead for mooring and installation as part of the Technology Leadership Team within IntecSea.

Colin has been involved in a wide range of offshore engineering projects, with the following areas of particular expertise:

• Global motion response of FPSO and other floating structures including verification of numerical model with both full and scale experiments/measurements;

• Specification and execution of detailed non-routine model testing programs at several leading model testing facilities;

• Vessel response, including analysis of low frequency response to bi-directional seas and extreme vessel motion (i.e. slamming, green water, capsizing);

• Hydrodynamic interaction between multiple floating bodies;

• Risers, floating hoses, and mooring hawsers;

• Detailed floatover analyses including preparation of time domain software tools for detailed engineering calculations;

• Coastal structures including breakwaters, and;

• Plume dispersion modelling from external emission sources.
