Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to perform the primary functions of a nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Room.
Essential Job Functions:
Plan, prioritize, and provide proficient, age-specific and developmentally/specialty appropriate nursing care by applying advanced specialty clinical nursing knowledge and skills and for ensuring the comfort and safety of patients/families
Proficiently and consistently complete accurate, concise and legible documentation on medical records
Observe and record signs, symptoms and behaviors including the physiological status of patients
Presents proposed revision of interventions and desired outcomes
Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
Follow physician's orders in the delivery of nursing care
Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as COLA and CLIA regulations
Adhere to required infection control, isolation procedures and aseptic techniques in the delivery of patient care
Perform admission, discharge and transfer procedures
Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care given
Assemble equipment and supply for various diagnostic or treatment procedures in the specialty service area; performs or assists others with procedures or treatments. Handle care in accordance with legal, hospital/facility, departmental policies and procedures, and established standards of nursing care and practice, as defined by the Board of Nursing of that State

The CCU/IU nurse monitors the overall hemodynamic status of the critically ill patient while performing head to toe assessments, assessing all body systems, rhythms and invasive lines, tubes and drains. Accepting New Grads and experienced Registered Nurses!
The CCU/IU nurse monitors the overall hemodynamic status of the critically ill patient while performing head to toe assessments, assessing all body systems, rhythms and invasive lines, tubes and drains. In the CCU and IU, the Registered Nurse is expected to administer, titrate and monitor critically ill patients on critical medications. Many of these patients are post-surgical and require intense monitoring. They are able to communicate appropriately with the physicians and surgeons any concerning status changes or body system specifics that may require further intervention. CCU/IU nurses operate and are trained on life saving advanced medical equipment including but not limited to ventilators, Intra-Aortic Balloon pumps, Assistive Heart pumps, Continuous Dialysis machines, Hypothermia induction and maintenance devices, defibrillators and others. CCU/IU Nurses are required to stay current with both BLS and ACLS certifications.
The Registered Nurse in CCU functions in units we call pods. This design allows the OHH nurse to maintain a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse patient ratio in the Critical Care Department and a 1:3 nurse patient ratio in the Interventional Unit. This allows CCU/IU nurses adequate time to monitor and care for critically ill patients thus ensuring the highest quality, safe and patient-focused care.
Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

The Emergency Room (ER) team at Oklahoma Heart Hospital (OHH) sees a wide variety of patients in a fast-paced and constantly changing work setting. The OHH North and South campuses strive to provide optimal care no matter the setting, with 14 ER beds at the North campus and 20 ER beds at the South campus equipped with critical care technology. ER team members are dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-focused care in a comprehensive, safe and healing environment.
In the ER, you must possess keen assessment skills, have a strong work ethic, be a strong and focused team member and be able to transition from one patient case to the next very quickly. ER nursing team members are responsible for assuming patient care, assessing patients and working closely with the ER physician to determine the disposition of their patients, whether they are admitted, transferred, observed or discharged.

Oklahoma Heart Hospital's paid Nurse Extern Program is a truly unique, hands-on learning opportunity for nursing students prior to their final year of nursing school.
