About the role:
This IP Counsel will support the company's Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Electrophysiology (EP) business segment and provide legal advice and service on patents, copyrights, trademarks, licensing and related agreements. This includes evaluating patents and potential product infringement issues, overseeing outside counsel's preparation of patent applications and office action responses for filing in the U.S. Patent Office and foreign patent offices, participating in intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions, representing the company in matters relating to intellectual property law, and providing other general legal advice where required.
Your responsibilities include:
* Directing the company's patent, copyright, trademark and intellectual property protection.

* Preparing intellectual property acquisition or license agreements with third parties related to M&A transactions, acquisition, and licensing of patents and technology.
* Reviewing third party patent portfolios for possible acquisition or licensing analysis.

* Providing legal advice in other areas such as: preparing and reviewing consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, marketing promotional material, and other agreements.

* Facilitating Patent Review Board meetings by leading discussions, managing action items and delegating responsibility for follow-up items to committee members ensuring resolution of agenda topics.
* Providing IP training to BSC employees.

Requirements:

Job Description
Dow has an exciting opportunity for a European Opposition Patent Agent/Attorney. The preferred location for this position is The Netherlands, however other Dow locations including Belgium, Germany, or a virtual office within Central or Western Europe may be considered.
About you
In this role, you will serve as a European Patent Agent/Attorney that independently provides legal counsel for European Oppositions across all of Dow's businesses, in consultation with internal and external legal experts as appropriate. This requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines to solve complex problems. You may lead projects or project steps within a broader project, with manageable risks and resource requirements, or may have accountability for on-going activities or objectives. You will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and work independently with minimal guidance.
Primary Responsibilities:
A major focus will be the strategic counseling, coordinating and management of European Oppositions drafting and prosecution of patent applications (at least 80% of time). Your key responsibilities will include:
Consult with and counsel Dow businesses and functions to define European Opposition strategies and control costs;Prepare legal opinions and approve outside counsel opinions relating to risks arising from European Oppositions;Negotiate and draft technology agreements for opposition settlement purposes;Provide counsel and assist in negotiations and litigation to resolve IP disputes with third parties.
