JOB TITLE: Conflicts and Business Intake Compliance Counsel

SUMMARY: We are seeking a Conflicts and Business Intake Compliance Counsel. The ideal candidate will act as counsel to the law firm in identifying and resolving actual and potential conflicts of interest arising out of new business intake and the hiring of lawyers and staff joining the firm, as well as assisting with the onboarding of clients, matters, lawyers and staff. Core responsibilities include counseling lawyers and staff in resolving actual and potential conflicts and providing legal and operational support for the Office of General Counsel in its implementation of risk management strategies relating to new business intake, legal hiring, compliance and other legal matters involving the firm. Members of the Office of General Counsel work as an integrated team with many other departments of the firm, including management, and they are seen as valued resources and trusted advisors to the partners, associates and staff of the firm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform initial review of conflicts reports requested by firm attorneys, identify actual and potential conflicts of interest and coordinate resolution of conflicts among all involved parties.
Advise the firm and its attorneys regarding the appropriate form and terms of engagement letters for use in documenting new engagements and counseling and assisting attorneys on drafting such letters as needed.
Approve engagement letter drafts prior to distribution to clients and assist with drafting waivers for inclusion in engagement letters or separate letters as required.
Monitor compliance with new business intake instructions and requirements, such as the completion and execution of appropriate engagement letters and any necessary waivers, implementation of ethical screens where necessary and assessment of intake risk by the firm.
Act as a resource in assisting firm attorneys in understanding conflicts of interest and managing conflicts and new business intake in an appropriate manner, including participation in firm presentations and training programs as needed.
Review conflicts reports for incoming lateral lawyers, new lawyers and legal support staff and take necessary action to clear actual and potential conflicts of interest, including interfacing with candidates where necessary to obtain further information about their work.
OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED:
Provide legal advice to the firm and its personnel regarding various professional responsibility and risk management matters as required by the Office of General Counsel.
Tasks may include development and updating of firm policies and forms for internal use; reviewing and providing legal advice regarding client Outside Counsel Guidelines and vendor contracts; maintaining and updating terms of engagement letters, waiver letters and related documents based on changes in the law and firm practice; assisting in development of strategies and methodologies for identifying, managing, and resolving conflicts of interest and assessing client and matter fit; and developing and/or conducting internal conflicts training for the firm's lawyers and staff.
EXTENT OF CONTACT:
This position requires a high degree of contact with:
the firm's General Counsel and Assistant General Counsels;
the firm's Director of Office Services, Business Intake Risk and Compliance Director, Business Intake Manager, Conflicts Specialists and other business intake staff;
firm partners, associates and staff, including executive management.
This position requires limited contact with individuals outside of the firm.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: (necessary travel, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)
Position is full-time, requiring a 5-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the firm policy manual, with additional hours as required when necessary to meet deadlines.
Limited domestic travel, possibly involving multiple-day trips requiring overnight stays, may be required in order to attend training seminars/CLE programs, firm meetings and the like.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Adheres to highest ethical standards for behavior.
Strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to permit effective communication in person, by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of lawyers and staff.
Ability to recognize actual and potential conflicts of interest under applicable professional standards, other issues that could be viewed as conflicts of interest from an ethical and/or business perspective, and effectively discussing and resolving such issues with the lawyers and staff involved.
Prior experience as a conflicts attorney, or experience in legal ethics, conflicts analysis and/or review, representation of law firms and the like.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
J.D. degree.
Member of the State Bar in good standing in Duane Morris office where candidate will sit.
Minimum 4 years' experience as a practicing lawyer in a business law firm environment and/or prior experience as a conflicts attorney in a law firm setting.

About the Role:
This role supports individuals receiving services by assisting with daily living activities and fostering recovery, wellness, and self-determination. Key responsibilities include implementing and documenting person-centered activities, promoting community integration, and encouraging independence. Additionally, the position contributes to maintaining a safe and welcoming service environment. All duties align with the agency's mission, values, and goals.
What You'll Do:
• Participate in the development and implementation of service/recovery plans reflecting the individual's preferences, goals, lifestyles, and interests.
• Assess, teach, evaluate, and supervise individual's skills in the areas of daily living, meal planning, housekeeping, career needs, and social, recreational, and community activities.
• Complete written documentation daily that reflects the individual's recovery and progress on their goals as well as staff interventions.
• Assist and oversee individuals with medication regimen including PRN medications.
• Consistently engages in productive/therapeutic activities.
• Encourage and support individuals in developing positive relationships with family and significant others.
• Assist individuals through modeling, verbal teaching, and/or direct assistance with maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of their individual rooms and their residence.
• Assist or prepare various foods for individual meals as required.
• Ensure that any/all dietary considerations are followed. Food shopping must be completed, and dietary preferences/concerns will need to be considered.
• Locate and access community medical resources for individual needs as applicable and as instructed.
• Take regular responsibility in shift activities, including but not limited to site trash removal, changing linens, making beds, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning common areas, which include but are not limited to the living room, kitchen, foyer, dining area, and hallways.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including assisting with maintenance of the kitchen, common areas, linen closets, medication storage areas, and staff office.
• Use appropriate communication channels.
• Respond appropriately to safety/emergency situations.
• Drive agency vehicles in a safe manner following the applicable traffic laws for purposes of supporting individuals and/or the program.
• Provide consistent and positive feedback to participants in relation to the progress made on their goals.

Position Scope

MAJOR FUNCTION
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Behavioral Health and Clinical Supervisor of Behavioral Health, the Behavioral Health Counselor (BHC) provides behavioral health services in an integrated care and trauma informed manner. The BHC will work in a patient center and collaborative manner providing services to patients which includes but is not limited to brief intervention counseling, identification of social determinants of health, referrals to mental health and substance use services as appropriate, and follow up services to patients via face to face or through telemedicine. Is responsible to work independently, managing a diverse caseload; does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Direct Service:
* Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of behavioral health clients.
* Provide effective treatment planning and assisting clients in successfully achieving goals.
* Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
* Actively participate in meetings that support the integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for clients.
* Assist in the detection of "at risk" patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
* Assist the primary care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and patient education to improve self-management of chronic disease.
* Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders.
* Teach patients, families, and staff care, prevention, and treatment enhancement techniques.
* Monitor the site's behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement.
* Complies with and meets the required standards for Joint Commission and HRSA accreditations.
* Collaborates with all members of the Integrated Care Treatment team in service of the patient.
* Other duties as assigned.
Program Development and Maintenance:
* Develops and maintains liaison relationships with community resources as able, specifically other behavioral health and substance abuse agencies. Works to establish collaborative services and to lessen duplication of care.
* In conjunction with other staff utilizes the electronic community resource directory provided by the Trenton Health Team.
* Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects and/or pilot programs.
* Interprets Center behavioral health policies and procedures to providers, institutions, agencies, recipients, and other concerned individuals.
* Establishes and maintains necessary records and files. Drafts correspondence in the course of official duties.
* Collects, records, and analyzes significant program-related data; develops monthly statistical and programmatic reports.
Staff Development:
* Serves as a full member of the HJAHC clinical staff team.
* Participates fully in Behavioral Health departmental meetings and other agency meetings as warranted.
* Participates in professional and related meetings, conferences, and continuing education training as available; prepares reports as requested.
* Keeps appraised of developing areas of behavioral health and provides colleagues with updates as appropriate.
* Assists in behavioral health departmental tasks, including programmatic and infrastructure design, implementation, and evaluation.
* Learns and implements various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the Center or its related units.
* Assists with onboarding of new staff as supervising university interns as requested.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent and/or as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
* Defines and maintains the standards of social work practice within the Center based on all dictates of the National Association of Social Worker's Code of Ethics and the Social Workers Licensing Act of 1991 (N.J.S.A. 45:15BB-1 et seq.) and amendments thereto and with all the rules of the New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiner
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
* Master's Degree in Social Work or PhD in Clinical Psychology required
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
* Licensed in the State of New Jersey as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required
* Licensed in the State of New Jersey as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
* Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) and Licensed Addiction Counselors (LAC) can also be considered for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER (KSAO's)
* Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.
* Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence-based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
* Ability to work through brief patient contacts as well as to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
* Should be comfortable with the pace of primary care, working with an interdisciplinary team, and have strong communication skills.
* Good knowledge of psycho-pharmacology.
* Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected chronic conditions.
