Payroll Billing Specialist

General Purpose:

To perform payroll, billing and collection functions for assigned branch or branches.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all branch payroll activities, including, but not limited to transferring/inputting client orders to the system, organizing and inputting time slips, verifying visits for each client, calculating pay, making appropriate deductions, auditing input and processing weekly payroll.
  • Perform Bookkeeping activities
  • Complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding the payroll function using appropriate accounting standards.
  • Provides management with needed payroll reports.
  • Generates billing information from the system and sends to appropriate party
  • Provides reports and information to management on billing activities, as needed.
  • Performs collection functions, including, but not limited to running the aging report on uncollected monies, separating charts, calling and writing letters insurance companies, patients, BC/BS regarding uncollected monies, and communicating to management on the status of various accounts. May develop action plan on how to proceed with collections as a whole and/or with specific accounts.
  • Provides input to management on methods and procedures to promote the collection of monies owed and the reduction of average days outstanding.
  • Performs other assignments as requested.
  • May have access to personal health information (“PHI”) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities. Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • One (1) year billing and collections experience, preferably in the healthcare industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Quickbooks online experience mandatory
  • Experience working with ICD-10 codes.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated affinity for and accuracy with numbers and calculations.
  • Knowledge of HCFA, UB92, insurance claim forms, insurance billing and worker’s compensation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with multiple tasks, changing priorities, short deadlines and heavy workload.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Physical activity is sedentary and may require occasional lifting or carrying up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to sit in front of CPU for long periods of time.

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of Nursing Assistant course and Certified Medication Assistant
  • One (1) year experience in DDA Group Home and/or as required by contracted facility.

Knowledge, Skills Abilities Required:

  • Pass criminal and abuse background checks, when required by the State(s) in which employe
  • Able to communicate with all levels of clinical and non-clinical individuals.
  • Able to read and interpret technical instructions; use vision and hearing to observe the patient.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and fine motor function necessary to assist in the operation of patient care equipment.
  • Evidence of current CPR/BLS training for infants, children and adults.
  • Able to provide proof of a valid driver’s license, if applicable.
  • Able to provide proof of valid auto liability insurance if assignment(s) include driving own vehicle.
