The Design Associate provides support to the lead architect in the design, selection, coordination, and detailing of architectural materials and systems. Essential functions and responsibilities include: Evokes a self-starter mentality Possess creativity with a strong desire to learn the technical portion of construction documents, paired with client relations Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work Acquires and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities Performs basic design tasks Perform code and product research Visits sites to prepare as-built drawings of existing buildings Prepares construction document drawings in Revit Assists on other tasks such as preparation of permit applications and project manuals Collects data and gathers information, performs standard computation and analysis Coordinates with engineering consultants on assigned projects Prepare meeting agendas and document meeting notes Responds to contractors RFIs and communications during construction Review shop drawings for conformance with construction documents Occasional site visits to projects during the construction phase to monitor construction progress Performs any other tasks as needed by Supervisor Minimum Qualifications: Strong oral and written communication skills Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited architectural program Previous architectural experience preferred Must be able to perform work-related travel and have a valid driver's license Must be local to GMC office Other Requirements: We are like Gumby - flexible! This is a full-time position supporting Electric Distribution Engineering. The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates' education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This role is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of electric distribution facilities in Dominion Energy's electric service territories in the greater Columbia area. Candidates in this role will: - Produce technical designs - Prepare detailed drawings and exhibits - Complete engineering calculations - Analyze electrical load data - Size equipment based on engineering standards and codes - Determine location of equipment and ensure safe access and clearance can be maintained - Secure necessary permits - Facilitate easement negotiations and acquisitions - Determine material needs - Assist in procurement of special order items - Estimate project costs and timelines - Calculate estimated revenue and non-standard costs for billing customers - Coordinate with internal and external customers and stakeholders - Communicate company policy and procedures and ensure compliance - Assist operations during construction - Inspect installed equipment to ensure code compliance - Identify safety issues and hazards - Recommend improvements to prevent safety issues - Evaluate impact of decisions and actions on own and other's safety - Account for material - Monitor inventory, as-built drawings, ensure mapping accuracy in GIS - Assist in service restoration during outages - Perform other duties as requested or assigned. **Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience** **Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):** **Customer Projects Designer I** 0 - 2+ years related experience; Basic knowledge of electricity, electric distribution design, electric distribution operation, and use of a personal computer Skills and Abilities: problem-solving, decision-making, project management, time management, organization, verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, attention to detail, and adaptability. Physical attributes to perform essential function: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing. **Customer Projects Designer II** 2 - 3+ years related experience; Successful completion of the Customer Projects Designer Development Program or previous external experience demonstrating knowledge of fundamental overhead and commercial design. Knowledge of distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures. Skills: verbal, written and interpersonal communication; time management and organization; project management; math and technical aptitude. Abilities: effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented. Physical attributes to perform essential function of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing. Demonstrated leadership ability. Completion of NWLC T&D Modules 1-3 (not required if have an Associates degree) **Customer Projects Designer III** 5+ years related experience; Demonstrates leadership skills through training, mentoring and supporting less experienced personnel as well as appropriately interacting with other groups. Successful completion of the Customer Projects Designer Development Program or previous external experience demonstrating knowledge of fundamental overhead and commercial design. Strong knowledge of distribution design, electricity, company policies and procedures and mainframe and personal computer. Skills: good written, verbal and interpersonal communication; math and technical aptitude. Time management and organization; project management; analytical. Abilities: adaptable to change, demonstrate initiative, effectively interact with customers and team members; detail oriented. Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.
