Interlock Industries company history timeline

1982

Since 1982, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation has partnered with children, families, health professionals, and other British Columbia residents to raise funds to support BC Children’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, and the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

1990

Since 1990 Western Interlock has been manufacturing high-quality paving stone supply.

1992

The company was incorporated on September 10, 1992, and started doing business in December 1992.

1994

Jim Ballard joined Smart Start as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 1994.

1998

The Metal Roofing Alliance was formed in 1998 by a small group of forward-thinking metal roofing manufacturers with the main goal of educating consumers about the many benefits of metal roofing.

2000

Smart Start expanded in 2000, offering its first franchise model in Texas.

2001

The Stollery Children’s Hospital is a 150-bed children’s hospital that opened in October 2001.

2003

When Hurricane Isabel tore through North Carolina and Virginia in September of 2003, more than 6 million people were left without power in its wake.

2005

In 2005, the individual kits were listed under UL 67 standards allowing easy acceptance of the product by local electrical inspectors.

From selling product by word of mouth in 2005, GIT has become a recognized supplier of an innovative electrical device that is marketed through electrical supply houses and a web based store that offers same day shipping directly to customers.

That was when the idea came to Douglas Albertson, managing partner of Generator InterLock Technologies in Richmond, Virginia. Thus the idea for the InterLock kit was born and in 2005, it was officially launched under the Generator InterLock Technologies (GIT) company.

2009

As the number of different kits grew, the practice of UL Listing individual kits was reviewed by Wyle Laboratories and OSHA and in 2009, Interlock Kits were approved for all panels that are listed to UL 67standards.

2013

In 2013, Ballard was promoted to Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

2014

In December 2014, Smart Start repurchased three franchise states—Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska—and named franchisee, Matt Strausz, as CEO of Smart Start.

2015

On August 21st, 2015, Smart Start was acquired by ABRY Partners, becoming 1A Smart Start, LLC.
