International account representatives deal with international clients, servicing the needs of existing clients or looking for new international business opportunities. They work towards selling products on a global scale and searching for prospective territories for future sales.

As an international account representative, you will make sure you achieve the revenues planned with your client base. You will have to make sure business relationships with existing clients are solid and fruitful, resulting in increased business profits.

You will be responsible for creating business strategies related to your lead accounts and attend account development meetings with managerial staff at your company. It will be your job to create connections between various departments such as customer support or marketing to make sure company efforts are aligned towards a common goal.

What general advice would you give to an international account representative?

Technical accounting skills are necessary but not sufficient to thrive in the profession. Young professionals should seek professional development opportunities to enhance their knowledge base for data analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital assets. Knowledge of ESG reporting will also become more important, especially with the new SEC rules about climate-related disclosures.
