In 2009, the results of the largest HIV vaccine trial in history were announced.
A study published in 2012 indicates that T-cell responses likely did not play a role in protecting against infection, and that the vaccine’s efficacy was related to antibody responses to certain regions of viral envelope proteins.
In July 2014, results from the first phase of a small 2014 study of the drug romidepsin in combination with a vaccine candidate were announced at the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne.
