Position Overview
As an Endocrinologist at BVHS, you will provide outpatient care for patients with a broad spectrum of endocrine and metabolic conditions, including diabetes management, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and hormonal imbalances. The practice will be located within the new Wellness Park, a comprehensive musculoskeletal and specialty care center featuring Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Podiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rheumatology, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a diverse outpatient caseload, seeing approximately 15-20 patients daily.
Provide expert evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of endocrine disorders.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic patient care.
Offer consultation and support to general practitioners and other specialists.
Engage in patient education focused on lifestyle modifications and disease management.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocols.
Contribute to the development of outpatient services and practice operations.

Schedule & Practice Flexibility
Flexible work arrangements, including:
Part-time or full-time schedules (2-5 days/week with 8-12 hour shifts).

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions within the collaborative agreement arranged with Physician. Addressing urgent overnight floor calls and coordinating care with the attending physician on duty.
Precepting/providing education to students rotating on service as needed.
Demonstrate clinical competency and accountability in care for patients as identified in unit's Scope of Care
Acts as a mentor/role model for staff as well as a resource person for nurses, medical assistants, and/or other ancillary staff.

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician (Spinal Cord Injury). The Physician (Spinal Cord Injury) will function in Spinal Cord Injury Service. Qualifications To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
* Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
* The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
* Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
* Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
* (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
* PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
* PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
* rather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
* Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
* Proficiency in spoken and written English
* Board Certification: Board certification is required if the position being filled is required to: (1) supervise medical students or physician residents (including fellows)
* (2) have faculty status with an affiliated medical school (for example - in joint recruitments with affiliated medical schools)
* and/or (3) to be board certified by virtue of specific VHA policy (for example - as director of a cardiac catheterization laboratory or Director of Clinical Laboratory Medicine)
* Preferred Experience: Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship Training and BC/BE status is preferred - but not required
* Experience working with general neurology - multiple sclerosis - ALS or any form of neuro rehabilitation (spinal cord injury and/or disorder) in an inpatient or outpatient setting
* Experience or clinical interest in new interdisciplinary neurological/neuro-rehab programs

Duties
* The Staff Physician - Spinal Cord Injury Service (SCI) is responsible for care of Veterans with acute and chronic SCI in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment for clinical care of inpatients - outpatients - and SCI long term care residents - consultative services - patient/family education - and supervision of resident physicians
* Participation in clinical research is optional
* The majority of time is devoted to patient care and education - with the remaining time set aside for performance improvement activities and research to improve patient care and activities sufficient to maintain proficiency in state-of-the-art rehabilitation/medical care
* Reviews and completes SCI service consults for neuro rehab medical appropriateness
* Participates in managing facility wide performance measures such as access and utilization
* Participates in accreditation meetings or surveys as needed
* May serve on hospital wide committees
* May participate in Quality Management activities such as root cause analysis or Morbidity and Mortality conference
* Participates in peer review
* Maintains medical licensing and Board certification requirements
* Obtains resident supervisory privileges through medical school affiliate
* Operates computer technology and Microsoft platforms such as Word - Excel - PowerPoint - and Teams
* Responds to and completes consults received for the evaluation of SCI
* Performs and documents a comprehensive - initial history and physical examination required for evaluation in compliance with national guidelines using the electronic tool(s) required by VA
* Performs procedures including joint - trigger point - and chemoneurolysis injections consistent with privileges
* Obtains consents and documents procedures performed during clinic visits
* Consults other disciplines - as necessary - to complete the patient examination - e.g
* Occupational Therapy - Physical Therapy - neuropsychological testing - audiology and speech language pathology testing - vision testing - psychosocial evaluation - etc
* Carries out whole health and disease prevention activities including education - shared decision-making - and recommending complementary medical services (health coaching/massage/acupuncture)
* Documents care provided in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in accordance with Northeast Ohio Health Care System requirements
* Provides education and counseling of patients with Neuro Rehab diagnoses including outcomes - medical conditions - and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs
* On call duties include weekend coverage on the inpatient rehab unit
* Consults and educates other medical specialties when necessary
* Provides SCI Neuro Rehab and SCI Annual Examination telehealth consultations
* Maintenance of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) certification is required - ACLS certification is not required
* May be required to perform administrative duties required for performance measures or improvement activities - compliance with accrediting organizations - or other duties as assigned
* May be required to serve as preceptor for health care students rotating through the inpatient service and outpatient clinics
