Job DescriptionDescriptionThe primary purpose of our Veterinary Student Externship is to provide a hands-on learning experience for 3rd and 4th year students who are enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. The program is typically scheduled for 2-week blocks at our hospital. We feel that the students who possess an open mind and a willingness to learn will benefit the most from our externship. Key ResponsibilitiesThe Veterinary Student Extern is responsible for performing inpatient and outpatient medical care under the direct supervision of our veterinary staff. They will be expected to perform in-house diagnostic tests (hematology, chemistry, and radiology) with competence, perform routine client education, and to assist in surgical procedures. Skills, Knowledge, and ExpertiseParticipants in the Veterinary Extern Program must currently be enrolled in an AVMA-accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program.

Our program structure: Our externships are flexible-they can range from two to eight weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum - but are typically two or three weeks in length. Your schedule will include days, evenings and weekends. Our externship rotations are designed to allow students, under veterinary supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their clinical preparation. Externs are given the opportunity to work alongside our veterinary team and are encouraged to participate in all aspects of patient care. A stipend of $250 per week will be provided. What you'll be doing: Externs experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice. Under the supervision of your mentor doctor you will gather histories, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, scrub in to surgery, assist in the management of medical cases, provide wellness care, develop your client communication skills, polish your technical skills and produce appropriate medical records (SOAPs) within the time limits of daily practice. Who we're looking for: Extern students are expected to be enthusiastic and effective participants in our patient care activities, upholding the professional and ethical standards of our practice. Students participating in the externship program are suggested to review the Veterinary Practice Act in regard to the scope of duties that may be performed, and to be familiar with the type and degree of veterinary supervision that is required. These should be followed carefully in order to protect both yourself and our practice. As a veterinary student extern, we expect you to dress and behave in a professional manner and to meet the expectations that we have of all team members as outlined in our employee handbook. The Recovery Support Intern will play a crucial role in supporting student wellness by promoting recovery resources and facilitating all-recovery meetings on campus. This internship provides students with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in peer support, event coordination, and health promotion. The intern will be responsible for organizing and hosting a weekly all-recovery meeting, as well as promoting recovery resources and providing peer support to students engaged in recovery. Responsibilities: All-Recovery Meeting Coordination: Prepare for and host a weekly all-recovery meeting that is inclusive of all forms of recovery. Ensure that the meeting space is welcoming and supportive of all attendees; clean up the space after each use. Marketing and Outreach: Create and distribute marketing materials (flyers, social media posts, etc.) to promote the all-recovery meeting and other recovery-related resources available on campus. Collaborate with the Office of Health Promotion to raise awareness of recovery resources among the broader student body. Peer Support: Offer individualized peer support to students attending the recovery meetings. Provide information and guidance on available campus resources and external support options. Administrative Support: Maintain accurate records of attendance and materials used during the meetings to assist with the semester-to-semester transition. Communicate with the Office of Health Promotion regarding the needs of the group and the effectiveness of the meetings. Training Complete the Certified Peer Educators (CPE) Training, a 10-hour online certification program offered by NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), before or during the first semester of employment. The Game Day Internship Program is designed for college students to explore careers in the sport industry while getting hands-on experience working with one of the most successful teams in Minor League Baseball. The IronPig's GDI Program will expose students to numerous game day roles and will allow students to learn from and work alongside IronPigs Front Office Staff members. By experiencing multiple departments, the GDI Program is designed to assist students in choosing which specific direction they are interested in. Timeline: The GDI program will begin at the end of March and will conclude in September. Interns are expected to be present for all IronPigs' games they are scheduled for. Although interns will not be scheduled to work 100% of the games, we are looking for qualified candidates that have open availability. We acknowledge that most colleges and universities do not end the school semester until May. The GDI Program is able to work with individuals that are still attending classes at that time.
