What Does An Internship Director Do At Montclair State University

* Compile and present reports, proposals and recommendations related to advising, retention, and long range planning for advising and retention efforts.
* Develop and lead retention based outreach programs to new and continuing students in coordination with department and College leadership.
* Supervise staff and direct daily operations of Academic Advising function of the Student Success Center, including coordinating work schedules, facilitating the peer advisor program, and selecting, training, coaching and evaluating advising staff.
* Collaborate with faculty, advising staff, and College staff in creating and coordinating appropriate advising services related to educational pathways to retention and graduation.
* Actively coordinate and serve as liaison with department chairs, program coordinators, and faculty, in the design, development and assessment of effective advising processes, resources, and training programs.
* Coordinate staff participation in advising/enrollment-related campus events, including Admitted Student Days, New Student Orientations, Transfer Orientation and Majors/Minors Fair.
* Design, implement, and disseminate effective advising, and transfer resources (web-based and printed resources) for students, faculty and staff to insure the easy accessibility of accurate advising and transfer information.
* Maintains accurate and appropriate records on students who utilize the departmental services and assist with other data collection for reporting purposes as needed.
* Assists with the direction and formulation of policies and procedures that impact retention and provides support for the overall enrollment growth.
* Serve as a liaison to campus departments, including CAST, ASRP, EOF, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Bursar.
* Oversee freshman advising holds
* Coordinate CEHS sections of New Student Experience course; teach a course section as needed
* Conduct faculty advising training (as requested or as needed)
* Maintain a caseload of student advisees as necessary and appropriate
* Internships:
* Cultivates relationships with alumni and employer partners, in collaboration with the CEHS Director of Career Services, seeking to recruit students as interns and to facilitate communication and collaboration across multiple programs at similar internship sites
* Develops and coordinates programs designed to help student reflect and integrate their work-based learning with their academic lives and career planning; Develops and provides programming to increase student awareness of and successful participation in internships.
* Implements marketing to raise awareness about internships and campus resources among students and faculty
* Implements systems to track and evaluate internship sites and student learning outcomes
* Coordinate execution of affiliation agreements with all health and human services internship sites
* Builds strong collaborations with department chairs, faculty program coordinators, and department staff to identify and implement best practices in internship education
* Develops a process in which all internships are reviewed and approved as credit bearing internship opportunities adhering to the Fair Labor Act and the Universities policies on internship experiences.
* Develops and implements a plan to collect data on all non-credit bearing internships throughout the College
* Develops and maintains key metrics and data regarding placement of students.
* Collects and maintains internship participation data and provides reports for stakeholders.
* Provides support to academic departments interested in increasing their students' participation in internships
* Maintain a caseload of internship advisees as necessary and appropriate
* The Director will be a hands-on, practical, organized, professional manager able to work collaboratively with the Director of Career Services, Dean’s Office, faculty and staff of the College, and the program staff.
* The Director must also effectively manage professional staff, support staff, graduate assistants and student assistants.
* The Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Student Success Center in partnership with the Director of Career Services.
* Must also effectively engage in cross-training of staff in functional areas represented in the Student Success Center.
