Internship Summary
Launch your career in insurance by exploring sales or service tracks at Kunkel & Associates. The Insure Your Future Internship - Summer 2026, created in partnership with the Iowa Economic Development Authority, is designed for freshmen and sophomores who want real client exposure, mentorship, and the chance to shape their future career path.
Through the statewide Insure Your Future program-the first of its kind for Iowa's insurance industry-you'll also connect with peers from across the state and participate in leadership development opportunities. Iowa's financial services sector offers abundant career potential, with salaries averaging $42,000 higher than the non-insurance industry.
Over 8-10 weeks, you'll gain hands-on experience, shadow seasoned professionals, and contribute meaningful work. You'll choose to focus on Sales, Service, or rotate between both, depending on your interests and our business needs.
Strong performers may be invited back for our full-time summer internship in future years-and many of our past interns have transitioned into full-time roles after graduation.
What You'll Do
Sales Focus:
Shadow and train with Sales Executives and support staff
Learn how to complete insurance applications and build proposals
Join client and prospect meetings, presentations, and service plan reviews
Practice networking and cold calling to build business development skills
Analyze data to ensure clients have appropriate coverage
Service Focus:
Shadow and support Account Managers and Client Service Representatives (CSRs)
Assist with policy and endorsement checking
Prepare renewal proposals and client service materials
Gain exposure to claims, marketing applications, and carrier communications
Contribute to special projects that support client service delivery
Opportunity for local students to continue part-time during the school year, especially supporting renewal season
Shared Opportunities:
Receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced team members
Participate in team meetings, Friday intern sessions, and leadership roundtables
Attend client-facing events and company social gatherings

Program Details

From municipal and transportation projects to boundary and land development projects, a land surveying internship for the summer is sure to give you valuable hands-on experience. Responsibilities
The work you may do
Boundary surveying, design surveying, construction observation and staking for municipal projects including utilities and roads
Crossing inventories for WI DNR and US Forest Service
Assist crew chief with project tasks including: collecting site information, measuring features, staking points, and establishing positions.
Complete field duties accurately and on time for both internal and external clients
Assist with field data collection, data reduction and drafting
Maintain equipment and supplies

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly organized Office Administrator to join their manufacturing plant in Dyersville, Iowa. You will will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office around all accounting and human resource functions, ensuring efficiency and productivity. This role requires strong administrative skills, the ability to supervise staff, and excellent organizational abilities.
Work experience as an Accounting/Bookkeeping professional in the Manufacturing industry and around cost accounting is required. This role requires a strong leadership mindset, with outstanding skills for accurate bookkeeping and accounting principles and proactive problem-solving. Additional tasks or projects may be assigned as needed.

Reporting to the plants CEO, this position also assists with the company's culture and implementation of strategic and tactical objectives, as necessary, for their plant to achieve its goals.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Verify, record, reconcile, and perform accounting functions including, but not limited to, financial transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, sales taxes, general ledger entries and writing checks
Month-End close (including bank and merchant account reconciliation, accruals, closing entries, etc.)
Provide accurate financial reporting as required
Process weekly payroll
Assist/provide back up in entering sales orders and fulfilling/shipping customer orders
Inventory maintenance and analysis
Work with operations to ensure billing accuracy
Conduct financial evaluations of operational initiatives.
Assist in customer account inquiries (payment and application research)
Instills a discipline that drives sound internal controls and ensures adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.
Administer company benefits programs (health insurance, 401(k), HSA, etc.)
Claims Administration (Cobra, UI, WC, etc.)
Ensure compliance with all labor laws
Assist with the hiring/onboarding process of new employees
Respond to employee questions/concerns
Other tasks and projects as requested by General Manager
Skills/Requirements
5+ years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience in a manufacturing environment required
Minimum of 3+ years of experience as an Office administrator or related position
HS Diploma or GED required
High level of competency with Microsoft Suite/Word/Excel/ processing, ERP computer systems, and email
Familiarity with payroll processing and employee benefits administration
Must be technically savvy with the ability to quickly learn new systems with limited training
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
Some knowledge of HR principles and 3 years of practical experience preferred
