Under the direction of the Associate Director of Learning and Engagement, the intern is responsible for designing and conducting a study of how HoMA visitors move through the exhibition Toshiko Takaezu: Worlds Within. This process includes conversing with curators and educators to understand key concerns, developing research questions, designing a study, collecting and interpreting data, and creating a list of recommendations for how these learnings can be applied to future exhibitions. Visitor research plays a key role in the larger field of museum interpretation and allows for an informed, visitor-centered approach to building exhibition experiences. Schedules delivery tickets and maintenance service orders for residential and commercial accounts. Inputs and prints all gas delivery tickets when needed and credit checks all delivery tickets and service orders prior to implementation. Compiles, prepares or assists in preparing/analyzing various data and reports. Assists other primary administrative support personnel from other departments in the Hawaii Island Division and may assume their duties in their absence. Responsible for the administration and control of the Petty Cash Fund to include payment for meal allowance requests, per diem vouchers and small dollar amount reimbursements. Performs as Bulletin Board Coordinator ensuring all mandated postings are properly posted and where applicable timely posted and removed; ensures that postings are authorized and removes those that are not. Interacts with the general public and with all gas customers in a professional and courteous manner where required; assists them in resolving issues or refers them to the appropriate department. OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis. Complies with all applicable MIC and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures. Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner. Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager. Qualifications Required Education and/or Work Experience: Associate degree with approximately three years' administrative experience, or equivalent comparable experience in an office/administrative setting. Possesses good working knowledge of office procedures and practices. Demonstrated administrative and organizational competence. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point or comparable programs, with working knowledge of customer information and financial systems, such as ORCOM and Great Plains. The goal for this program is to offer opportunities for local talent to obtain valuable work experience within Hawai'i. Under the general direction of the Assistant Registrar, the Collections Intern will assist HoMA's Collections Department in its routine daily tasks as well as with long-term projects such as inventorying objects in storage and reorganizing object files. Training in the fundamentals of object handling and museum record keeping will be the priority of this internship, with opportunities for interns to also assist with exhibitions and collection rotations. This internship will provide hands-on experience and exposure to the broad variety of tasks a museum Collections Department is responsible for, and provides the opportunity to hone administrative skills, manual dexterity, and attention to close visual detail. This is a 9-week position from March 16, 2026 to May 15, 2026 The Honolulu Museum of Art: Opened in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Art is a home for art and education created for the benefit of the entire community.
