Position Description:
Mission Essential is excited to announce we have new work supporting Health and Human Services (HHS) providing refugee support to unaccompanied minors in need of translation services. Linguists shall translate information to and for Care Staff and other individuals, as appropriate. Linguists serve as Communication Liaisons to ensure accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation is available in a variety of settings. Services shall be rendered in-person primarily (preferred); and via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means available 24x7 if necessary. Linguist translation and interpretation support shall:
Provide in-person, onsite interpretation at Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) programs and service sites
Provide remote telephonic and/or video interpretation for ORR programs and service sites
Relay important deadlines, instructions, questions, and other communication from Support Care Staff to UC/UAM/URM in their native or preferred language
Assist UC/UAM/URM in communicating any concerns, questions, or other information to staff when UC/UAM/URM are not fluent or comfortable speaking English, or the language spoken by Care Staff
Provide translation/interpretation services to aid in orienting UC/UAM/URM to community resources as requested
Translate documents from English into the preferred and primary language spoken by the ORR-eligible recipient and vice-versa, as requested; at times, the vendor may need to translate into the preferred and primary language from a source language other than English. Source documents may come from ORR or come from the ORR-eligible recipient him or herself
Assist staff with building rapport and understanding the cultural context of the ORR populations they serve. The linguist does not replace the role of the program(s) case manager or clinician but rather serves as a person with which the UC/UAM/UM can build a cultural connection. To the extent possible, conversations must remain lighthearted to alleviate stress and anxiety in children
Requirements:
Candidate shall have a working proficiency (Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 2+) in English and the SCRL.

This Position is Contingent on Contract Award.
This position is in support of a proposed repatriation initiative. The purpose of the facilities is to provide comprehensive care for migrant individuals who are awaiting reunification or repatriation. This care will begin as soon as each occupant arrives at the facility and will last until their arranged departure. The comprehensive care includes but is not limited to initial screening and exams, identifications of prior conditions and allergies, day to day care of routine, urgent and emergency medical conditions.
The Medical Translator facilitates clear and accurate communication between healthcare providers and patients, ensuring that language barriers do not impede access to vital medical care. This role is essential in conveying health information, providing emotional support, and ensuring that immigrant families understand treatment options and medical instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
Translate written documents, such as medical records, legal documents, and other important paperwork.
Interpret spoken conversations in real time during meetings, conferences, or appointments.
Review and edit translated materials for accuracy and clarity.
Collaborate with other translators and professionals to ensure consistent terminology usage.

Job Summary
The Spanish Translator/Editor is responsible for the translation of materials from English into Spanish. This role assists with the planning and coordination of day-to-day activities relating to the Spanish translation of all AA Conference-approved literature as well as staff resources, service materials, periodicals, and other AA materials produced by the General Service Office. We are considering candidates who have professional written translation and editing experience. Please do not apply if you are bilingual but have no professional experience.
Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Language Services and the Spanish Translation and Editing Contractor in scheduling, communicating, and executing translation priorities.
Translate materials from English into Spanish for use at A.A. events, including website texts, reports, programs, press releases, Public Service Announcement scripts, activity updates, and memos from GSO. the General Service Office (GSO service desks, GSO. Archives, etc.
Assist with the review of translated materials for accuracy and consistency according to G.S.O. style sheets and glossaries.
Assist with the coordination of Spanish-language contractor editorial resources, including proofreading, editing, monitoring progress, and reviewing submitted work.
Make effective use of relevant language technologies and tools.
Perform Spanish to English translations.
Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
Required Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with knowledge of English and Spanish language, grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, and culture.
Extensive knowledge of editing procedures and terminology; working knowledge of current typesetting and publishing practices.
Ability to handle multiple projects at once.
Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills in Spanish.
Excellent -English-Spanish translation skills.
Proactive attitude in learning and developing additional skills and knowledge relevant to the job.
Fluency in English. Must be a native Spanish speaker.

This is a salaried, exempt position with an annual pay rate of $75,000.
