Job Description:
As an analytical linguist, your primary job would be to listen to live audio, transcribe and translate it. This will take place on site at one of the Federal offices. This is a project-based employment opportunity, meaning we cannot guarantee constant work year-round. The workload will depend on the cases assigned to certain regions. This work would mostly benefit someone who is a freelancer, retired, and/or looking for supplemental income.
We can offer Part Time or Full Time work based on the cases assigned to certain regions. Employee benefits apply such as PTO, Sick Pay, Health and Welfare, Medical Insurance & 401k. Hourly rate varies and is determined regionally by federal contracting at around $30-40/hr.
This position will require a security clearance for which Accent on Languages will sponsor you if eligible. Please take note that the security clearance will take about a few months to 1 year to obtain starting from when your packet is submitted.
We may be able to offer over other freelance jobs, such as on-site interpreting, remote or over-the phone interpreting, and/or translation jobs periodically while you wait for the clearance, if you qualify.

Qualifications:
1) Being perfectly bilingual (oral and written skills). Tests in both English and Spanish (reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension) will be administered and you must pass all language tests in order to proceed.
2) Experience with translation transcription and/or interpreting strongly preferred.
3) Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
4) Basic typing/word processing skills of at least 40 words per minute.
5) Good credit (Credit report will need to be obtained).

Responsibilities
Monitor live communication and listen to or read foreign language communications lawfully intercepted, and perform immediate verbal summaries, then subsequent written or typed summaries into the English language.
Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from source language to English as required.
Translate from the target to the source language.
Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from source language to English as required.
Validate by reviewing other's original translation, transcription, or the quality control review of the specified original work in order to attest to the accuracy of the final work.
Summarize by providing concise and accurate synopsis of oral or written communications.
Provide reliable, accurate gist's and summaries of intercepted communication to law enforcement officers.
Attend federal and state legal briefings, known as Title III minimization, prior to the beginning of any new investigation.
Assist law enforcement officers in the preparation of evidence and investigation summaries for the possibility of federal or state trials.
Serve as a “fact” witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify.
Maintain regular communication with the program manager and keep them informed of available hours/days/shifts for upcoming assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned by the customer or the Program Manager.
Requirements
Must be 18 years old or older.
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
Be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Residents who are in the U.S. legally and have legal work status. Only contractor personnel who are U.S. citizens will have access to classified documents.
Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language.
Have demonstrated proficiency in English and the target language as demonstrated through testing. Testing shall have occurred no more than five years before the analytic linguist commencing work:
Certified or the ability to become certified in listening, speaking, reading, and writing language proficiency in target native language and English.

Job Summary:

2. When voicing for a deaf adult include a high-level of equivalence between the source language and the target language. Produce signs accurately, both structurally and conceptually, with a wide range of well-chosen vocabulary. Convey a wide range of grammatical structures (conditionals, RHQs, etc.); ability to use complete and complex sentences with correct syntax. Production should be smooth and fluid with few to no hesitations, while pausing where appropriate. When signing for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing adult ensure signing space is appropriate; clear establishment and use of referents; excellent use of spatial aspects of expansion feature. Have the knowledge, diversity of culture, and skill required to prepare for each interpreting assignment, including knowledge needed to assist in setting up an environment that is conducive to meeting the communication needs of both the hearing and Deaf/Hard of Hearing participants. The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, to meet the demands at the determined school site. Maintain, as applicable, compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements. Understand the importance of confidentiality and only share confidential information when authorized and/or on a need to know basis. 4. During times when a staff member does not need an interpreter, assist and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, which may include the following. ASL Interpreter Minimum Qualifications
National certification at or above NAD level 4, RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC or BEI Advanced.
Extensive knowledge of the NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct and Deaf Culture ethics and standards of practice.
Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other state and federal laws applied to medical interpreting.
HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year)
State licensed where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
ASL/English fluency, and bilingual/bicultural competency.
Degree or certifications in ASL interpreting practices.
Minimum 2 years of in-person ASL interpreting experience within a medical setting, preferred.
Proven national medical interpreter certification (CCHI or NBCMI), or medical interpreter training diploma (i.e.: Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, any 40-hour nationally accredited medical interpreter training course),
preferred
but not required.

**The Work** The Legal Translator will play a vital role in delivering high-quality translation services for legal documents. This flexible, as-needed position will collaborate with a dedicated team while ensuring accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality in every project.

+ Translate legal documents such as letters, reports, website content, brochures, posters, and correspondence while maintaining the content's accuracy, tone, and meaning.
+ Depict cultural sensitivity and create clear, accurate translations that meet legal standards.
+ Edit and proofread translated documents for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and adherence to legal terminology.
+ Conduct a quality review and proofreading process as assigned to maintain high standards.
+ Follow client-specific style guides, glossaries, and translation preferences.

+ CTP (Certified Translation Professional)

+ Membership to NAJIT ( National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators)
+ Experience working in:
+ State Department
+ Refugees
+ Court/ Legal setting
+ Familiarity with Legal Terminology
+ Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

**Working Conditions**
+ This position is on-call on a as needed basis. Interpreters will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
+ This position requires Legal Translation within the Washington State.
+ Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
+ May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
+ May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
