Job Summary
Our Linguists are responsible for performing real-time transcriptions of sensitive material from Spanish to English; collecting, analyzing, identifying, and decoding of colloquialisms and slang terms; extracting pertinent information and communicating that information to law enforcement agent(s). The linguist will be responsible for transcribing source documents and recordings from storage media, including but not limited to audiocassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Listens to oral intercepts/audio recordings in Spanish and provides verbal and written synopsis and transcripts.
Linguist is responsible for relating all pertinent information to the Client.
Contribute to a master-list of slang words and codes (used by a particular group/organization) for the duration of the project/case.
Maintains a voice library for the duration of the project.
During inactive or low periods of activity, transcribes and translates pertinent calls assigned by their supervisor.
Produce court ready transcriptions of pertinent calls following the required format.
Responsible for using the various reference tools created during the project.
Ability to transcribe a minimum of 18 - 22 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
Operates specialized software equipment provided by the government to include JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse and other communication collection equipment used at their assigned site.
Maintain daily log of productivity.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years' experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree AND five (5) years' experience in a professional setting OR a High School Diploma AND seven (7) years of experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of transcription experience in the required language
Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.

Specifically, this candidate would help with in-house translations, facilitate communication among staff and customers, bridge the gap in customer communications (secure meetings), and work on a ***part-time, as needed basis***. Though rare, there may be occasional travel for conferences and customer site meetings.
Candidates must reside within a 30-minute commute to our Vienna office to handle scheduled and ad-hoc onsite meetings as they may arise. Meetings take place Monday - Friday, typically between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Candidates must undergo and pass a security clearance investigation before onboarding.

**Department:** Historic Sites **Location:** Alexandria, VA Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House, a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking part-time Museum Interpreters to provide engaging, interpretive tours of both sites, for two to three days per week. Interpreters must also attend regular mandatory meetings and training sessions. The position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team at a historically significant site in Alexandria, Virginia. This is a limited part-time position with 10-15 hours expected per week. The hourly wage for the position is $17.00 per hour.
The museum's mission is to engage with our community to preserve history and care for nature at this former site of enslavement. Our programs, events, and interpretation foster racial justice, promote sustainable practices, nurture wellbeing, and contribute to community repair. We are dedicated to researching and interpreting the underrepresented histories and stories of the site's Indigenous and enslaved people, free Black and Quaker communities, and their descendants. Our goal is to share the full history of the site, provide historical context, and highlight the contributions of all the people who lived and worked in both houses. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BECOMING SKILLED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:**
* Provide guided tours and occasional self-guided experiences for visitors, maintaining a level of knowledge in order to substantively inform the public and respond accurately to their questions.
* Facilitate positive experiences for visitors, group tours, and other audiences in a confident, professional and inclusive manner.

The Department of Education Administration (EdAdmin), one of Education and Guest Services' operating units, manages special projects and cross-division programming. In 2025, the EdAdmin group will launch the Revolutionary War Encampment, a new experience that will be a core part of Mount Vernon's America250 programming.
Compensation:

Expected Hours:
24-28 hours/week with 1 weekend day/week and occasional evenings and holidays
Position-Specific Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily interpretive operations at the Encampment to ensure high-quality learning opportunities in a safe and friendly environment.
Monitor interpreter attendance and provide morning briefings to ensure proper information sharing. Distribute schedules, adjust schedules as necessary, and evaluate schedule adherence.
Respond to guest issues as needed. Keep managers informed of all abnormalities in daily operations and maintain strong communication channels through regular reporting.
Actively observe daily interpretations and report quality issues and inconsistencies to departmental leadership.
Assist departmental leadership with maintaining a positive work environment, encouraging morale, and providing staff with the tools necessary to succeed. Oversee the training of new and existing staff and interns. Participate in daily coaching as needed and promptly provide managers with appropriate information about employee performance.
Facilitate the daily opening, closing, and security of the Encampment site as necessary. Make sure that essential posts are staffed appropriately. Implement emergency procedures when required. Report any incidents and concerns related to the safety of our guests, staff, historic structures, and collections to departmental leadership promptly.
Follow and enforce standard operating procedures for the encampment, including musket firings and campfire cooking, and handle tools and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Actively grow your knowledge of the Revolutionary War and Washington's plantation in order to enhance your interpretive ability continually.
Perform Encampment Interpreter and Museum tour duties when needed. Assist with special tours, student programs, and other projects as needed. Be a model for other interpreters.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in a related field (History, Museum Education, Museum Studies, etc.) or experience (minimum of 1-2 years) working in a similar role at a museum or historic site is required.
Previous experience as an interpreter or museum educator is preferred.
A sincere interest in Revolutionary War military history is required.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure are essential for this position.
Must be able to work creatively and effectively as a team member while working independently to complete tasks.

Introduction:
George Washington's Mount Vernon is seeking part-time guides to provide tours through the Historic Mansion, staff the Washington Family Tomb, and lead specialty tours as a History Interpreter. History Interpreters work individually and within a team to educate Mount Vernon's 1.1 million annual guests on how George Washington shaped the world in an age of revolutionary change.
History interpreters provide the historical framework that educates guests on George Washington and the world he transformed. These tours promote reflection about our past and its connection to today by using engaging and positive guest experiences that also aim to encourage our visitors to take positive action within their own communities. Our interpretations take the contradictions and the promise of Washington's revolutionary world head on by confronting slavery and both his successes and failures within the context of trying to build a ‘more perfect union.'

Encampment Interpreter

Part-Time, Non-Exempt Background: The Education and Guest Services (EG&S) Division provides meaningful learning opportunities for Mount Vernon's one million annual onsite visitors and students in classrooms around the country. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences, engaging programs, and online resources, we expand each learner's understanding of and appreciation for George Washington and the revolutionary world in which he lived.
The Department of Education Administration (EdAdmin), one of Education and Guest Services' operating units, manages special projects and cross-division programming. In 2025, the EdAdmin group will launch the Revolutionary War Encampment, a new experience that will be a core part of Mount Vernon's America250 programming.
Compensation:
$15.00/hour
Expected Hours:
21-24 Hours/week with 2 weekdays and every other weekend.
Position-Specific Responsibilities:
* Create a positive learning environment for guests of all ages and backgrounds by being hospitable, approachable, and professional in appearance and demeanor.
* Provide guests with accurate, interesting, and pertinent historical information about everyday life in Revolutionary War encampments and 18th-century military history in an engaging, timely, and articulate manner.
* Follow departmental interpretive strategies in order to effectively integrate your interpretation into the larger learning experience of guests.
* Assist the Encampment Interpretive Supervisors with daily opening, closing, and security of the Encampment.
* Assist the Encampment Interpretive Supervisors with implementing emergency procedures when necessary to ensure the safety of guests, colleagues, historic structures, and collections.
* Assist with special tours, programs, and other projects as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
* Must be able to work with a diverse audience and have a sincere interest in military history.
* Must be punctual, flexible, responsible, and able to work well under pressure.
* Ability to work creatively and effectively as a member of a team is essential.
Special Requirements:
* The successful candidate must be able to:
