Training Program
The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of training and nine weeks working within a specific IM team. Across all IM teams, the curriculum is designed to equip Summer Analysts with the fundamental skills they need to be successful in IM. During the 10-week program, Summer Analysts experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by performing a role similar to a Full-Time Analyst.
During the 10-week program, the Summer Analyst will work closely with the Investment Team, working on specific projects and participating in all stages of the investment process. This will include investment coverage activities, as well as those associated with sourcing, analysis, and evaluation of new ideas in addition to monitoring existing investments. The analyst role spans idea generation, data intake and analysis and data aggregation and management, and includes working with large data sets in Microsoft Excel, internal software systems, Python, SQL, and/or R to assess investment/strategy merits and monitor relevant portfolio metrics. Summer Analysts will have the opportunity to assist with active risk, exposure and P/L oversight and evaluation throughout the program.

About the Role
We are seeking a PhD student-level intern (20 hours/week, part-time, 1-2 days onsite in Chicago) for a 12-month appointment working directly with the Executive Director leading CME's Data & Analytics buildout. This is a ground-floor opportunity to contribute to both the modernization of CME's core analytics and the development of new AI-driven, mathematically rigorous models.
The role has three interlocking pillars:
1. Rebuilding & Operationalizing CME's Financial Mathematical Models
CME has a deep library of proprietary models across asset classes - some long-standing and widely used, others emerging. You will help:
* Review and where appropriate suggest improvements to analytical models using modern numerical and statistical methods
* Document and validate models in alignment with governance and regulatory standards
* Work with technology to prepare models for deployment using GCP infrastructure
* Help to document and at times direct conversion of legacy codebases into robust, maintainable analytics libraries
* Ensure mathematical transparency, reproducibility, and version control

About the Role
We are seeking a PhD student-level intern (20 hours/week, part-time, 1-2 days onsite in Chicago) for a 12-month appointment working directly with the Executive Director leading CME's Data & Analytics buildout. This is a ground-floor opportunity to contribute to both the modernization of CME's core analytics and the development of new AI-driven, mathematically rigorous models.
The role has three interlocking pillars:
1. Rebuilding & Operationalizing CME's Financial Mathematical Models
CME has a deep library of proprietary models across asset classes - some long-standing and widely used, others emerging. You will help:
Review and where appropriate suggest improvements to analytical models using modern numerical and statistical methods
Document and validate models in alignment with governance and regulatory standards
Work with technology to prepare models for deployment using GCP infrastructure
Help to document and at times direct conversion of legacy codebases into robust, maintainable analytics libraries
Ensure mathematical transparency, reproducibility, and version control
Collaborate with Product, Clearing, Data Science, Index, and Engineering teams
Examples of model domains include:
Curve construction & interpolation
Volatility modelling (e.g., SABR in depth, SVI, spline surfaces, curve fitting)
Option pricing & Greeks (finite-difference / Monte Carlo)
Microstructure analytics (order book modeling, liquidity metrics)
Risk models (scenario generation, historical VaR, CVaR, distribution modelling)
Statistical estimation for high-frequency data

Predictive analytics and anomaly detection frameworks
Hybrid models combining financial mathematics with ML architectures
This work sits at the intersection of quant research and state-of-the-art AI - and will be developed directly on GCP, leveraging tools such as BigQuery, Vertex AI, and large-scale notebooks.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

General Description

Summer Analysts will be placed into a specific strategy team for their summer program, including Opportunistic Investing, Buyout Private Equity, Private Credit, Tactical Value, Transformational Secondaries, and Venture.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Work with senior members of the Fund to conduct diligence on investment opportunities
* Coordinate with advisors and consultants on due diligence items
* Help construct company financial forecast and valuation models
* Execute other investment related tasks (track prospective deals, help negotiate confidentiality agreements, etc.)
* Contribute to investment memoranda on investment opportunities
* Monitor performance of existing portfolio companies

Overview & Placement
The Institutional Equity Division's Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program that begins with one week of classroom training, followed by four rotations across the division.
All Summer Analysts will receive on-the-job training and be exposed to a wide variety of roles, products and services throughout IED, working alongside experienced professionals in a fast-paced, client-facing, and market-driven environment. Summer Analysts will have the opportunity to broaden and strengthen their respective skillsets, collaborating with individuals across IED on meaningful projects and initiatives.
In addition, the Program features a Senior Management Speaker Series, cross-divisional networking events, community service events, performance reviews, and a robust mentorship program.

Training Program
The program begins with a one-day orientation where Summer Analysts are introduced to the Firm and primary businesses within, as well as to one another at our opening Firmwide networking event. For the remainder of training, Summer Analysts will attend divisional-specific events designed to help develop the core skills required for a successful summer.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Cash Equities: Morgan Stanley is a global leader in executing transactions in cash equity and equity-related products for institutional clients around the world. These products include common stocks, global depository receipts and exchange-traded funds.
* Sales: Teams work closely with Chief Investment Officers, Portfolio Managers, and Traders to deliver meaningful market insight and expertise, facilitating introductions to product experts throughout the Division and Firm to help clients successfully achieve their investment objectives.
* Equity Derivatives: Across global equity derivatives markets, Morgan Stanley is a leading provider of execution services and solutions. Our product suite encompasses equity options, equity swaps, warrants, structured notes and futures on individual securities, indices and baskets of securities.
* Sales Trading: Responsible for helping Institutional clients identify and implement cost-efficient, suitable trading solutions, providing pricing and liquidity, and managing firm risk.

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:

Role and Responsibilities
* Develop investment recommendations on Fixed Income Securities through the study of market fundamentals and technical research.
* Helping develop models to identify short term asset-class disconnects in real time.
* Gain exposure to Fixed Income Research by learning from seasoned professionals as they tackle longer-term asset allocation challenges, develop trade recommendations, and craft research content such as reports and podcasts (listen to Thoughts on the Market and watch Fixed Income Strategy 101 to learn more about what we do).
* Analysts will be given a specific project during each rotation focusing on anything from developing and pitching a trade idea to creating new valuation and trading models. The project will be presented to the research team at the end of each rotation.

The Financial Resources and Strategy (FRS) Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program, beginning with a one-week classroom training followed by nine weeks of three rotations across the FRS Business-Resource Management, Margin & Capital Optimization, and Funding & Collateral Optimization. Responsibilities
There are largely four businesses under Institutional Securities Group (ISG): Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets (GCM), Sales & Trading, and Research. Within Sales & Trading, Financial Resources and Strategy (FRS) sits alongside the Institutional Equities Division (IED), Fixed Income Division (FID), and ISG Risk Management.
FRS is a centralized function responsible for secured funding, collateral management, margin optimization, CCP (Central Clearing Counterparty) relationship management, and managing capital / balance sheet / liquidity across ISG. Because FRS works with business heads to develop a near and medium-term strategy for growth and optimal use of the Firm's financial resources, members of the FRS team work on projects across divisions, asset-classes, and regions. These projects have direct and meaningful impact on ISG and the Firm's strategic direction.
Resource Management: closely integrated with FID, IED, and GCM enabling/pricing/deploying resources as well as partnering to structure transactions to maximize returns and support strategic business initiatives globally. The team manages the front-to-back ISG Financials, working to ensure efficiency, optimal resource usage and operating leverage, across its balance sheet, capital, liquidity, and expense base.
Margin and Capital Optimization: responsible for margin and capital optimization for both cleared and uncleared Firm trading activity for all cash, derivatives, and securities financing transactions across all asset classes. Partner with traders in executing derivatives trades by pricing funding and capital impacts as well as execution of post-trade optimization. Engage with CCPs to establish new clearing services which, are often, capital / liquidity efficient.
Funding and Collateral Optimization: finance ISG using Repurchase Agreements, Total Return Swaps, and Securities Lending products. Responsible for ISG's secured funding framework, including impacts to liquidity and capital requirements, and assisting trader execution within this framework. Optimize various collateral margin postings, while minimizing cost and pursuing revenue opportunities.

Middle Office (MO): The Middle Office acts as a critical link between front-office trading and back-office operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions The MO team works closely with the Chief Operating Officers, Directors of Operations, and Treasury Managers of our clients and its primary responsibilities include trade processing and matching, positions and cash reconciliations, and corporate actions management. MO teams also handle cash and collateral management, which involves monitoring cash flows, managing margin requirements, and instructing collateral movements across counterparties using SWIFT-based tools.
Product Development: The Product Development team defines the product vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. The team collaborates with cross-functional squads to deliver features and coordinate testing, quality assurance, and operational sign-offs to ensure readiness for deployment.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML): The Anti-Money Laundering team is responsible for helping our clients identify and manage potential AML risks. The team works closely with the General Counsel, Compliance, and Investor Relations representatives at our clients. Day-to-day responsibilities include the management of AML documentation, monitor source of funds, manage third-party wire checks, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, AML supports risk assessments during onboarding and subscription processes, ensuring all alerts are reviewed and cleared promptly and serving as a point of contact for fund managers and their investors.
Qualifications / Skills / Requirements:
* Current undergraduate student with a graduation date of December 2027 or Spring 2028.
* Minimum 3.0 GPA.
* Strong analytical interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Collaborative, quick learner, adaptable, enjoy solving problems, possess a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task.
* A keen interest in finance and markets.

Expected base pay rate(s) for the role will be $43.27 per hour at the commencement of employment. However, base pay is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include discretionary bonuses and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
