Inverness Club company history timeline

1903

On February 23, 1903, six Toledoans led by S.P. Jermain, gathered to sign the letter of incorporation for the Inverness Club.

1912

Ray won the Open Championship in 1912 and was runner-up the following year.

1913

He was best known for his part in the playoff for the 1913 United States Open, when American amateur Francis Ouimet defeated Ray and Vardon.

1916

In 1916, Inverness Club hired Donald Ross, the most famous and prolific designer of his time, to design an eighteen-hole championship golf course.

In 1916, Ross was hired to redesign the Inverness Club course to championship standards.

1919

The first was the 1919 World Series, matching the Cincinnati Reds against the Chicago White (Black) Sox… but, that’s another story.

1927

In 1927, he was player/captain for Great Britain in the first Ryder Cup.

1944

He left at the end of 1944 to pursue tournament golf full time.

1954

The Inverness Invitational Four-Ball was a LPGA event held in 1954, won by Betsy Rawls and Betty MacKinnon.

1965

He played on two winning Ryder Cup Teams, and led the 1965 team to victory as captain.

2016

In 2016, Inverness Club engaged golf course architect, Andrew Green, who carefully researched original drawings and historic photography to restore the artistry of Donald Ross’s design.

2017

Zimmers joined Inverness in 2017 and was part of the renovation led by architect Andrew Green, which was heavily inspired by that famous Ross creation.
