The Opportunity
We are looking for a SIU Investigator (mid-level). This is a desk position. Within defined guidelines and framework, protects USAA and our members from potential fraudulent claims by investigating questionable, suspect claims activity in compliance with state insurance fraud-related laws and regulations and policies and procedures. The selected candidate will have a strong property SIU background and not just auto
This role is remote eligible. However, you must currently live in the covered territory, which is Washington or Oregon. There may be occasional business travel.
What you'll do:
Applies knowledge and understanding of fraud schemes and investigation strategies on any questionable or suspect first or third part claims.
Participates in the development of fraud prevention strategies.
Applies knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes in investigating claims to include P&C insurance policy contracts, coverages and internal claims handling process and procedures.
Applies knowledge of state laws and regulations pertaining to insurance fraud in investigating claims.
Collects evidence of potential fraud through field or remote interviews and thorough searches of investigative databases, internal resources, Internet resources, public records, and forensic tools.
Makes recommendations within defined authority guidelines.
Prepares and presents detailed and comprehensive verbal and written investigative reports summarizing the results of the investigation and recommended outcome.
Develops and maintains external relationships with industry, law enforcement and other contacts involved in fraud investigation, detection, and prevention.
May serve as a resource team member on specific matters through demonstrated skill or training.
Assists with the delivery of fraud awareness training initiatives in a defined environment.
Handles CAT duty responsibilities as business requires.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
2+ years claims adjusting experience, or P&C SIU/Fraud Investigation experience OR 4+ years prior investigative law enforcement (to include military) or relevant fraud industry investigation experience.
Proven investigatory skills.
Experience obtaining statements from various parties to incidents, witnesses, and suspects.
Ability to gather broad range of evidence and draw conclusions based on the objective details related to the applicability of fraud.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload, performing multiple tasks and devising solutions to problems.
Familiarity with using computers and various software packages to enter and extract data for analysis from relevant data sources and systems.
Knowledge of city, state and local regulations, legal concepts, understanding of contracts, case law, medical treatment, and medical terminology.

Compensation range: The annualized range for this position is: $77,120 - $147,390. However, this is an hourly position.

About the Role

Driving is a required part of this job in order to perform the duties of this position as an L&I investigator to get from one location to another. There will be frequent daily travel with occasional overnight travel throughout the State. WSP is seeking a Lead Geologist with 7 or more years consulting experience to join our Pacific Northwest Site Investigation & Remediation Team. We offer flexible working arrangements to help with work/life balance, and have offices in Portland, OR and Redmond, WA.
WSP's Pacific Northwest Site Investigation & Remediation Team offers environmental remediation and related services to a diverse set of clients, including industrial/commercial companies, local and state agencies, and the federal government. Project locations are local, regional, and nationwide. We have in-house experts in chemistry, risk assessment, data management, graphics/GIS, engineering, and industrial hygiene who support projects in the Pacific Northwest and many other locations and have access to subject matter experts worldwide. The position requires a self-motivated candidate able to work as part of local, regional, or national project teams.
Your Impact
Help solve problems and document solutions, express ideas through strong technical writing and verbal communication, and support technical reports, plans, and calculations in a consulting environment.
Work on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, with substantial emphasis on soil, soil vapor/gas, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and stormwater investigations and remediation systems; chemical fate and transport assessment; hazardous waste management; permitting; and site planning.
Provide guidance on green and sustainable remediation techniques for a variety of clients who would like to minimize their carbon footprint.
Support litigation projects through cleanup cost evaluation and preparing materials for mediation and expert testimony.
Be a member or leader of teams providing environmental consulting services to commercial and government clients.
Perform complex technical tasks under oversight of more experienced technical reviewers/directors as appropriate.
Possess knowledge and technical skills in Federal, Oregon and Washington regulations.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
B.S. or higher in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related discipline
7 or more years post-education environmental consulting experience
Professional registration in Oregon or Washington (preferably both) if a Geologist/Hydrogeologist
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Consistent and highly accurate project work
Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
Comfortable working within both small and large project teams to achieve objectives
Ability to work in industrial and field environments as well as in the office
Flexible to work outside of business hours, when necessary
Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook, in particular
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree is preferred.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

**PRIMARY PURPOSE** **:** **To investigate fire events to determine origin, cause, and responsibility in accordance with assignments from clients or assigned legal counsel.**
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Accepts assignments from customers for investigation of losses or claims and pursues investigation in accordance with the specific needs of the assignment.**
**Determines the origin and cause of the loss/claim under investigation and identifies any potential third-party responsibility for subrogation potential.**
**Maintains required reporting commitments to client in accordance with EFI's standard procedures.**
**Promotes and markets utilization of EFI services in the insurance industry and within assigned territory**
**Serves as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel.**
**Investigates losses/claims with illegal, fraudulent or subrogation aspects in accordance with assignment from client or assigned attorney representing insurer.**
