Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
* Assesses the needs of patients and families undergoing diagnostic procedures, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
* Assists the physician with the development of an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
* Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care.
* Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in the Diagnostic Cardiology Department in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
* Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
* Utilizes critical thinking in making judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of the patient.
* Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required in the safe performance of the following exams.
* Adult and pediatric electrocardiography (EKG)
* Adult and pediatric cardiac ambulatory monitoring
* Adult and pediatric treadmill stress testing
* Adult implantable cardiac recorders (if applicable)
* Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment including, but not limited to the following:
* Electrocardiography machines
* EMR and EKG reporting systems
* Patient monitoring systems
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice including the use of radiation protection devices and exposure levels for both the associate and patient.
Development & Patient Education
* Continues professional development and involvement in activities that enhance the technician's practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
* Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
* Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs various special procedures using radiological techniques in the cardiac catheterization Lab/Electrophysiology Lab for diagnostic and placement purposes, as directed by the performing Cardiologist/ EP Physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Skillfully uses various radiological equipment to perform special procedures including cine radiography, angiography, radiotherapy, and the like consistent with department procedures and professional practice.
Prepares patients for examination and assist in the examination
Inspects and maintains equipment to assure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area, make exposures, and assists physician during fluoro exam.
Operates machinery to produce radiographic images in screen/film and fluoroscopic modes
Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time, distance and shielding.
Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to self, patient, and staff.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability in performing the following procedures:Cerebral and carotid Angiogram, extremity and pelvis Angiogram, femoral run-off, aortic arch, subtraction, injection factors, and catheter usage.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability in use of departmental equipment C-arm and radiographic equipment.
Demonstrates ability to address proper safety procedure including shielding from radiation, equipment safety, and patient safety.
Demonstrates ability to address privacy issues including consent forms and patient procedures being performed.
Prepares the catheterization laboratory folder in accordance with department standards, procedures, and guidelines
Competently completes and enters pre-procedure patient demographic data in homodynamic computer, Operates homodynamic and physiologic monitoring system (pressure sampling, waveforms, procedure log and equipment utilized.
Participates in the On Call Program for emergency cardiac cath lab procedures on rotating basis expected to be within the premises and ready to work within thirty (30) minutes of the initial page.
Successfully completes requested cross training and demonstrates an ability to perform in every function in the cath lab area within designated scope of practice. Consistently adheres to the policies and procedures of the department.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
An Associates degree from an American Medical Association approved course in radiologic technology.
Must be eligible for certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE :
One to two years of experience as a radiology technician is required.
Experience or training in a defined functional area of special procedures is required.

General Summary/Basic Purpose of Job:
The EKG Tech performs basic Non-Invasive Cardiology diagnostic procedures upon patients with suspected deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.
Performs routine ECG studies on neonatal, pediatric and adult patients in accordance with physicians' written orders. Place electrodes on the patient's chest, legs, and arm area. Attaches leads from ECG machine to patient for standard ECG recording.
Note any significant technical comments on the recording and have knowledge of the rhythms: modified lead placement, uncontrolled patient movement, etc. Reports any abnormal findings to the patient's RN or MD.
Performs routine Holter and Event monitoring procedures on adult and pediatric patients. Instructs patients in care of the monitor and required activity documentation.
Prepares skin and attaches leads. Provides hook-up and scans 24 and 48 hours holter monitor after completion of study. Instructs and educates patients about the importance of completing the diary of any palpitations during the study and reports the findings to MD
Performs cardiac exercise stress testing and nuclear cardiology stress testing under physician supervision.
Orients patient to procedure, takes patient history, prepares skin and attaches leads and monitors the entire procedure with the nurse and MD. Documents any significant patient complaints during the procedure (including pain).
Records baseline ECGs, BPs, and monitors patients under the supervision of the responsible physician.
Prepares patients for stress echocardiography procedures. Prepares skin and attaches leads. Records baseline ECGs.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Prior education through a training school for Cardiographic Technicians is preferred.
Must have a current CPR card.

The Blood Gas Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
* Responsible for performing exacting laboratory measurements on whole blood supernatants and other fluids.
* Performs preventative maintenance, calibrations and repairs on various lab equipment.
* Identifies, corrects and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting.
* Acquires specialized knowledge of Respiratory Therapy modalities and cardiopulmonary physiology essential for assessing the compatibility of laboratory data to the patient's condition.
* Compiles daily statistics as directed.
* Communicates with physicians, nurses, therapists and other clinical personnel to achieve optimal patient care
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree or two years of college training in a health related science.
* Laboratory experience.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
* Apply Holter, event, and telemetry monitors in accordance to clinic policy and procedure.
* Operate Holter monitor equipment and computers.
* Provide complete, comprehensive data analysis of the Holter monitor and prepare accurate reports for interpretation. Initiate billing for testing performed.
* Recognize emergent finds and notify the appropriate physician/nurse team.
