Trailer Mechanic
Pay Rate: $25-$32 per hour
Schedule: Wednesday noon-6pm, Thursday - Saturday 6am-6pm
Job Description:
Forward Air is looking for a self-motivated individual to join the maintenance team as a full-time Trailer Mechanic. Duties include maintaining all aspects of vehicles, trailers, and other mechanical equipment of Forward Air. This individual will be expected to do this while adhering to the compliance of all FA Policies, safe work practices, and maintaining high customer service.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Evaluate status of mechanical equipment, and trailers
Maintain equipment according to DOT regulations
Perform minor trailer repairs
Perform tire mounting/dismounting and repairs
Perform minor cosmetic repairs
Conduct various analysis and inspections of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair, or replacement
Maintain regular and dependable attendance
Maintain work area, tools, and equipment
Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools
Perform minor building and facility maintenance
Perform data entry in Maintenance Software to track repairs
Keep shop and company tools clean and in good working order
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Valid Driver's License required
Prior experience with truck, trailer, and/or vehicle repair
Strong mechanical aptitude
Desire for a long-term career with an industry leading company
Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast-paced environment
Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (extended hours as required)
Must have basic set of tools

What you will be doing:
Contributing to a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
Perform preventive maintenance services on heavy equipment and trucks.
Diagnose and repair heavy equipment and trucks located at our shop or on jobsites located in the Greater Cincinnati region. The Fleet consists of late model Caterpillar, John Deere, and Komatsu heavy equipment, along with Ford and Peterbilt trucks.
Light metal fabricating and welding.
Properly fill out repair tickets describing the work performed and parts used.
Communicate with the service coordinator about the status of services and repairs.
Qualifications for this position:
Experienced in diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment and trucks in the following areas:
Engine, Hydraulics, Driveline components, Undercarriages, Fuel Systems, Emissions systems, Electrical and wiring.
Detail Oriented, thorough with all work tasks.
Problem solving skills.
Organizational skills - Service truck and work area clean and organized.
Self-Motivated - Fast paced can do attitude.
Ethical - Always doing the right thing and telling the truth.
Reliable - Great attendance and willingness to do whatever is needed to keep the fleet productive.
Preferred Experience:
3 years' service mechanic experience
Broad mechanical knowledge
Good computer skills
Must Haves for this position:
Valid driver's license
Must be able to meet physical demands of the position; ability to lift over 50 pounds, walk on uneven surfaces, stand for periods of time, bending, kneeling and work in all weather conditions.
Must pass a Pre-Employment drug screening and Randoms as we are a Drug Free Workplace.
