Doctor Nathan Zommer, IXYS Chairman and CEO, founded IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ: IXYS) in 1983 in Santa Clara, CA, known as Silicon Valley.
IXYS grew overseas with a global vision in mind by acquiring and growing a specialized power bipolar wafer fab and assembly operation in Germany in 1989.
In 1989, IXYS provided power MOSFETs for the General Motors EV1.
Since then its global reach expanded to the United Kingdom, Korea, Taiwan and in more locations in the USA. IXYS became a NASDAQ-listed public company in 1998, and currently has headquarters in Milpitas, CA and Biel, Switzerland.
In 2001, the company acquired the British semiconductor manufacturer Westcode.
Deloitte and Touche named IXYS as one of the "Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50" in 2006, and is ranked annually in the top 100 companies of Silicon Valley.

October 2007: Named in “Silicon Valley Deloitte Technology Fast 50”
April 2009: Named among the largest corporations in the San Francisco Chronicle's “Chron 200”

In December 2009, IXYS Corporation announced that it will buy Zilog, which is now the company's wholly owned subsidiary.
In July 2013, IXYS Corporation finished acquiring Samsung Electronics' 4- and 8-bit microcontroller business, and the 4- and 8-bit microcontrollers acquired from Samsung will be offered by Zilog, Inc.
In August 2017, IXYS Corporation was acquired by Littelfuse Inc in exchange for $750 million in cash and stocks.
In January 2018, Littelfuse finished acquiring IXYS Corporation and IXYS was delisted from NASDAQ.
