J.C. Lewis Ford company history timeline

1912

October 1912 J.C. Lewis Sr purchased Ford dealership J.C. Lewis Sr., who worked for the Packard dealer, T.A. Bryson , was approached by his golf buddy, Jimmy Weeks about buying his Ford dealership located at 309 Bull St across from the old Desoto Hotel.

1913

Henry Ford didn't open his first assembly line until December 1913.

1917

1917 1917 Relocated to Oglethorpe and Barnard Streets J.C. Lewis Sr. relocated the dealership to the corner of Oglethorpe and Barnard Streets, where the SCAD dorm, Oglethorpe House currently stands.

1917 Sam Steinberg The company took applications for an office boy.

1942

1942 1942 J.C. Lewis Jr. inherits the dealership J.C. Lewis Jr. inherits the dealership and begins to learn the business via a pay-phone from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia

1949

1949 1949 Bay St Extension location At age 23, J.C. Lewis Jr opened a separate Ford truck and Ford tractor sales location at a Bay St Extension location

1962

1962 1962 Relocated to south-side section of Savannah Mr.

He moved the dealership from downtown to the southside in 1962, first to a plot just south of DeRenne Avenue.

1968

Vaden opened his business in 1968, followed soon after by Lewis' new dealership.

1987

1987 1987 75 year plaque J.C. Lewis JR. and son Walter Lewis receiving 75 year plaque from Ford Representative Pete Accorti.

2005

Lewis Jr.'s presence remained, though, even following his 2005 death.

2015

2015 2015 'Time Dealer of the Year' Nominee Walter N. Lewis is honored by the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association as a 2015 'Time Dealer of the Year' Nominee.
