This position controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water. Coordinates all maintenance and repair work and outages in a manner that minimizes the disruption of potable water services. This position is located at the United States Naval Academy. Primary Job Functions * Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plants. * Dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. * Mixes chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water. * Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing, repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools, tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities. * May operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water and purify wastewater from the preparatory plant to pump water into rivers and streams or city mains. * Performs other duties as assigned. Perform duties expected of a journeyman HVAC/R mechanical technician in a military environment. Work from verbal or written instructions, sketches, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and must comply with all federal, state, and municipal facility codes and specifications. Perform repairs and preventive maintenance to real property facilities and equipment, to include replacement. Perform all work in a safe and secure manner. Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards and standard safety practices. This may include, but is not limited to: handling refrigerant, working with natural/propane gas, basic pipe-fitting, soldering/brazing, chillers (scroll, screw, reciprocating and centrifugal), walk-ins, reach-ins, package and split-system A/C's, ice-machines, air handlers, cooling towers, exhaust fans, make-up air (MUA) units, return fans, variable air volume (VAV's), re-heat coils, ductwork, heat-pumps, furnaces, boilers (hot water and steam), converters - high temp hot water (HTHW), medium temp hot water (MTHW), domestic hot water (DMHW), unit heaters (electric, gas fired, and hydronic) pumps, motors, motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFD's) motor control centers (MCC's), electrical disconnects, air compressors, air driers, electronic/pneumatic controllers , etc. Replace Pump Seals, Motor Bearings, Air Filters, Belts, Sheaves, Etc. Chiller Experience Performs other work-related duties as assigned Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements Must hold a Maryland HVAC Journeyman License Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Must possess valid drivers license. Universal CFC Certification. The Real Inventoried Property Equipment Specialist or Real Inventoried Property Equipment Technician position will be identifying different types of equipment and determining the operating condition of the equipment. They will assist in gathering any information need for data transfers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform RPIE inventories of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for identified facilities and buildings. Input captured RPIE information into designated software and upload it into the client's system. Review as-built plans to identify and verify inventory information. Possess a thorough understanding of real property systems to accurately assess and validate existing RPIE. Work collaboratively within a team environment to develop consistent approaches to Quality Control processes. Provide weekly and monthly reports to the client on the status of RPIE inventory, including updates and any discrepancies found. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements Ability read and identify different type of equipment. Ability to read and identify blueprints to determine location of equipment. Ability to physically walk, stand, crawl and move around in a multitude of spaces. Ability to understand spreadsheets Ability to identify different types of building equipment for various trades.
