1906 J.T. Thorpe & Son, Inc. (JT THORPE) JT THORPE was founded in San Francisco, CA to support the rebuilding efforts following the massive 7.8 magnitude Great San Francisco Earthquake.
In 1908 JTT built its first industrial furnace at Standard Oil in Richmond, California, followed by refractory installations at new refineries in Benicia, Martinez and Avon – all locations within the San Francisco Bay Area.
Terra Millennium Corporation (TMC) was formed as a holding company for JTT in 1987.
1988 Headquarters Moved JT THORPE moved its corporate headquarters from Emeryville, CA to Richmond, CA.
1992 1st Regional Office JT THORPE opened its first regional office in Los Angeles, CA.
1993 Western Expansion JT THORPE opened its Tucson, AZ and Salt Lake City, UT regional offices after being awarded major projects in both areas.
In 2002 Brahma Group Inc. (BGI) was formed to provide mechanical and fabrication services to the industrial market place.
In 2002, the costs of asbestos litigation forced the company to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and create a trust fund to handle future asbestos claims.
In 2003 Quantum International Group (QIG) was officially established as a wholly owned subsidiary of TMC to handle projects outside of the United States and those with global alliance business within it.
The J.T. Thorpe Company Successor Trust was established in 2004 through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of a refractory contractor company based in Houston, known as J.T. Thorpe Co., which mainly served clients in Texas and Louisiana.
2005 Established Maysville Office After completing a large Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler project in eastern Kentucky, JT THORPE opened its regional Maysville, KY office.

J.T. Thorpe reached a private settlement with plaintiff Donald Osterberg in 2011 after two weeks at trial in California.
In 2013, a California jury awarded $38.9 million to the estate of Secundino Medina, who listed J.T. Thorpe Inc. among the defendants in a lawsuit claiming he developed mesothelioma as a result of working with asbestos products throughout his career as a factory worker.
2014 Pittsburgh Fireproofing Shop JT THORPE established a fireproofing shop in Pittsburgh, PA to execute a large LNG Plant project.
It paid out more than $8 million in 2016 alone.
2017 Opened Philadelphia Office JT THORPE opened its Philadelphia regional office to serve the refractory demand of the eastern refineries.
