DSU is seeking to hire a Custodian. Under general supervision, the Custodian performs a variety of custodial services both individually and with other Custodial Services staff in residence halls, academic and/or administrative facilities as assigned. The position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the day-to-day cleanliness and attractiveness of university facilities, surrounding building areas, and set-up for activities. The specific duties, tasks or combinations of tasks may vary according to the assigned facility(s); facility assignments may change to meet the needs of the department. Current areas of need include Klinefelter Hall. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and as such will have varying hours. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position will be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours including assigned weekends. Key Responsibilities Perform general cleaning duties in office spaces, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces Clean and disinfect bathrooms, kitchens, and break areas Empty trash bins and replace liners Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, and other supplies as needed Dust and clean office furniture, including desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and shelves Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces Vacuum carpets and rugs, and spot clean when necessary Sweep and mop hard floor surfaces Wipe down and sanitize frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and elevator buttons Clean and organize conference rooms and meeting spaces Perform deep cleaning tasks on a rotating schedule Report any damages, malfunctions, or safety hazards to the supervisor Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in good condition Follow proper safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Adhere to client-specific cleaning requirements and schedules Qualifications and Skills Previous experience in commercial or office cleaning is preferred but not required Proficiency in general cleaning techniques and knowledge of office cleaning protocols Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and carpet extractors Knowledge of proper chemical handling and safety procedures Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work Excellent time management skills and ability to work efficiently Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication skills in English Physical stamina to perform cleaning tasks for extended periods Flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts as required Work Environment and Physical Demands The part-time office cleaner position involves working in various office environments.
