Kings County Education Office janitor supervisor job description

JOB OPPORTUNITY

Kings County is seeking candidates with self-initiative, who are self-motivated, organized, and able to exercise sound judgment to apply for a responsible Janitor Supervisor position. Candidate is responsible for overall operation of janitorial services for all assigned County buildings and facilities. There is one immediate vacancy in the Public Works Department.

DUTY SAMPLE

Duties include but are not limited to those described below. Reasonable accommodation will be made whenrequested and determined by the County to be appropriate under applicable law.

Determine maintenance needs, schedule activities and assign work and work areas; prepare general plans for accomplishing janitorial coverage for County facilities; supervise and train employees in janitorial methods and safe use of equipment and cleaning products; plan and administer monthly safety training programs; coordinate cleaning activities with department personnel to ensure minimum disruption; inspect rooms, halls, offices, storage and work areas for compliance with established cleaning and safety standards and document inspection reports for management review; report building repair and security needs; check, evaluate and order or recommend cleaning equipment and supplies; scan and email supply orders to supply contractors; schedule major cleaning projects on a periodic basis; oversee and plan stripping and waxing of floors and shampooing of carpets; monitor and enforce safety, health and environmental protection regulations to assure the safe use of chemicals and equipment; keep records pertaining to time, material and performance; approve time of subordinates in payroll system; evaluate work of subordinates; interview job applicants and make hiring recommendations; perform janitorial duties on an emergency or relief basis; requisition, pick up,and deliver janitorial supplies to work crews as needed; assign special cleaning details as needed;may supervise, transport and control inmate trustees including assignment of work, training and instruction in safe, efficient operation and use of janitorial supplies and equipment; performs other related functions as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum requirements must be met by the closing date

Education: Successful completion of the required experience is proof of sufficient education for this class.

Experience: Three years of experience as a janitor or custodian, including at least one year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity.

License: Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. A current DMV printout is required upon application for employment. NOTE:Applicants must submit a current DMV printout with your application. It is the applicant's responsibility to attach your DMV printout prior to submitting application. Failure to do so may result in your application being disqualified.

Special Requirements: Ability to:

(1) qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check;

(2) qualify for deputization by the Sheriff for the purpose of supervising inmate trustees;

(3) work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as needed or assigned.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements: Perform moderately heavy physical activities in course of work, including lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects, containers or equipment weighing up to 45 pounds; regularly required to reach up to and above shoulders; exposure to and use of cleaning liquids and materials which may involve exposure to noxious fumes; regular exposure to dust and loud noise; frequent bending, stooping, standing and walking; exposure to infectious waste and cleaning chemicals; operate vehicles and janitorial equipment; may travel frequently to offsite locations; vision and hand/eye coordination for use of hand tools, other equipment and to drive.
