Jarvis Christian College company history timeline

1912

Located in Hawkins, Texas, since its founding in 1912, Jarvis Christian College has been a source of hope for those individuals who want a quality liberal arts education, professional preparation, guidance in Christian living, and most of all, a bachelor’s degree.

Thomas Buchanan Frost came to the school as superintendent in 1912.

1913

Jarvis Christian College, after much planning and labor, opened its doors in 1913 with thirteen students.

1915

The executive committee of the National Women's Board voted in 1915, to appropriate $1,000 for a sawmill that was purchased and installed on campus.

1928

In 1928, the school incorporated as a college.

1936

The Emma Smith Building, used to house administration offices, was built in 1936 and is the only campus structure surviving from the Ervin presidency.

1937

Senior College course offerings were introduced at Jarvis in 1937.

1938

In 1938, Peter Clarence Washington began his tenure as the second president of Jarvis Christian College.

1939

In 1939, the state of Texas granted a formal charter to Jarvis Christian College.

1949

Doctor John B. Eubanks became Executive vice President of Jarvis in 1949 and is credited with introducing the general education program and helping the school earn recognition from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

1951

Eubanks became the third President of Jarvis Christian College in 1951.

1965

The Olin Library and Communication Center was opened to students in 1965.

1966

In 1966, Doctor Perpener became the fifth president of Jarvis and the first alumni appointed to the office.

1969

In 1969, the Charles A. Meyer Science and Mathematics Center opened.

1982

Christian History Institute (CHI) is a non-profit Pennsylvania corporation founded in 1982.

2015

Jarvis Christian College’s Marching Band program was established in 2015 as the Sophisticated Sounds of Soul aka S3.

2017

In May 2017, it was announced that Jarvis Christian College will open a satellite campus in Dallas at the Southwest Center Mall beginning August 2017.
