How you will contribute
A Registered Nurse Intern II who excels in this role will:
Assist the nursing staff in preparing the patient for diagnostic and therapeutic treatment.
Completes proper reporting when there is an abnormal occurrence.
Provide input to the RN to update care plans and meet individual patient needs.
Observe patients and report changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff.
Provides daily patient care, e.g., bathing, peri-care, personal care, and clothing changes. Adheres to department standards in personal care.

What we are looking for
The RN Intern II assists with patient care specific to the age of the patient population served. The RNI-II provides quality care in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with departmental standards of care. The RNI-II demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the assigned unit and the organization. He/she remains flexible in adapting to changing systems and is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practices, treating staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect.
Additional requirements include:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Enrollment in an RN or BSN program; must be in good standing; successful completion of the program's 1st year required.

The role

Summary:
This unit sees a blend of medical patients who often have consultant specialists for procedures or interventions. Examples include GI for endoscopy procedures, or Interventional Radiology for lines, drains, and injections. This unit being med/surg sees a large variety of diagnosis including but not limited to many with cardiac, renal, infectious disease, and gastrointestinal diagnosis.
This position provides general nursing care to patients and families along the health illness continuum in diverse health care settings while collaborating with the health care team. He/She is accountable for the practice of nursing as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Responsibilities And Duties:
Assessment/Diagnosis - Performs initial, ongoing, and functional health status assessment as applicable to the population and or individual (30%).
Outcomes Identification/Planning - Based on nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems, documents planned nursing interventions to achieve outcomes appropriate to patient needs (30%).
Implementation/Evaluation - Evaluates and documents response to nursing interventions and achievement of outcomes at appropriately determined intervals; as part of a multidisciplinary team, revises plan of care based on evaluative data (20%).
Leadership - Actively participates in process improvement activities to achieve targeted measures of clinical quality, customer satisfaction, and financial performance (10%).

6A is a unique department with 36 physical beds. 24 of those beds are Telemetry beds, staffed at a 1:6 nurse to patient ratio.
We see patients with complaints of chest pain, arrhythmias, post-cardiac catheterization, post-pacemaker or ICD implants, respiratory distress, renal failure, surgical patients with significant cardiac histories, pulmonary embolism, and vascular interventions requiring high-risk anticoagulation management.
The remaining 12 beds are Progressive Care, staffed at a 1:4 ratio. Those are patients post STEMI in stable condition, respiratory failure on high level oxygen, arrhythmia or blood pressure management with IV drips, diabetic ketoacidosis, post-operative patients requiring higher level monitoring, and general medical patients requiring higher level of monitoring.
The blended unit concept is unique, and creates a cohesive group of caregivers united behind a common goal.

We care for post-operative patients including spine surgery, orthopedics, adult ENT, abdominal, thoracic, vascular, and urology cases.
