This role involves disassembling and cleaning generators, removing rotor poles, and doing on-site installs, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on hydroelectric equipment. We're looking for someone with strong technical skills who can travel to different customer locations. Most of our work is at off-site power plants. Requirements Here's what the Hydro Field Service Technician will be doing: Able to travel and stay near the job site (we provide lodging). Complete mechanical and electrical inspections, maintenance, and repairs on hydroelectric turbines, generators, and related systems. Help with disassembling, installing, aligning, cleaning, and commissioning hydro units at customer sites. Troubleshoot equipment problems and come up with quick solutions. Read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, manuals, and schematics. Communicate with customers about the job, repairs, and what we recommend. Fill out service reports, documentation, and follow up on tasks. Follow safety rules to keep the workplace safe and meet industry standards. Here are some of the things you'll be doing: Burning out, disassembling, and accurately recording winding and tap data for transformer rewinds and repairs Checking winding data from the engineer, working with engineers to come up with the best designs, and figure out what materials are needed. Winding transformers and coils exactly as the design says Using our company's system for recording data to avoid mix-ups on shared projects, and checking data on EASA when needed Fixing and putting together transformer cores and frames, and making sure the coils are up to par Labeling, testing, dipping, and re-testing finished transformers and coils, and cleaning them up nicely Figuring out and fixing issues with winding equipment Routine maintenance on the winding machines and documenting important data about the units Making sure the right insulation techniques are used Communicating with the Manager and Sales Rep about any schedule issues or workload problems Getting parts ready for shipping Follow safety rules and guidelines This job description does not encompass all duties, responsibilities, or activities required of the employee. Identify repair and part replacement requirements. -Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electro-mechanical equipment. -Assess the mechanical condition of equipment under repair. -Perform routine maintenance on winding machines to ensure optimal performance. -Rewind electromechanical equipment accurately, per recorded winding data. Check data as required on EASA. -Inspect coils to ensure they meet specified standards and tolerances. -Identify and resolve issues with winding equipment or the winding process -Accurately label, test, and dip/ VPI completed windings. This is a ‘job-shop' environment that requires operation of manual lathes for a wide range of repair applications, as well as precision mechanical assembly and alignment work. Candidates for the position must be mechanically inclined, with a demonstrated aptitude for mechanical measurement. Experience in a similar machine shop or motor shop environment is a plus. Welding experience is a plus. Requirements REQUIREMENTS · 5+ years of experience running manual lathes and milling machines. · Ability to read micrometers accurately. · Experience repairing component for rotating machinery. · Submerged arc welding a plus. · Ability to lift 30 pounds. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS · Basic reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills required. Experience with electrical controls wiring.
