This is a part-time position. The primary purpose is working with students. The Counselor serves as a consultant, resource specialist, guidance counselor, researcher, and educator. These roles support the function of counseling of students and allow the Counselor to serve as the students' advocate. Example of Duties: * Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. * Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students. * Develop and deliver school counseling curriculum in a classroom setting. * Provide individual and small group counseling as needed. * Continually research and remain current on information that will be of use to students educationally, personally and socially. * Maintain a current library of career and college information, and assist students in using the information effectively. * Provide information regarding financial aid and scholarships for college and vocational training. * Take a leadership role in working counseling content into the curriculum, staff development, and parent education programs. * Assist parents in addressing school related problems; refer parents to outside agencies when necessary. * Assist with enrollment to ensure that students complete courses appropriate to their needs and which lead to graduation. * Assist in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional practices. * Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house. * Share appropriate information with staff members, noting the need for confidentiality. * Assist in transition to high school and post secondary options. * Update and maintain confidential student records, including cumulative transcripts and student files. * Identify students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals. * Administer and interpret tests, student data and other assessments and appropriately discuss results with students and parents in a counseling environment. * Continually plan, evaluate, and revise the school counseling program. * Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. * Participate in duties and activities as assigned or required by the Governing Board or District or School Administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Ability to create and maintain a climate of respect. * Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of students and staff, and to protect records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties.
