ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides comprehensive career counseling to support the career development of students and non-students including setting career and educational goals and in developing marketable skills.
* Administers and interprets career tests including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and Focus2 Career Planning.
* Assists students in developingjob search strategies and in securing meaningful work through job search coaching, resume writing, mock interviewing, and referral to appropriate resources.
* Develops and implements career development workshops to facilitate the career planning process for students with emphasis on self-assessment, career exploration, internships and job search strategies.
* Initiates and develops strong relationships among campus partners including administrators, faculty, staff, and student groups.
* Develops and maintains relationships with employers and engage them in recruiting activities such as on-campus recruiting, participation in events, and information sessions.
* Attends professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to maintain professional competence in labor market trends, occupational information, and to enhance employer relations.
* Assists with events and projects including employer events, student events, and the graduate survey.
* Advises, counsels, and assists with registration of students for career-technical and academic programs.
* Assists in updating various online resources including the Career Services website, the online job board, Career Services Facebook Fan Page and the my SCC portal
* Assists in marketing and promoting Career Services to the campus community through announcements, flyers, social media posts, and presentations.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of management, co-workers, students, parents and employers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* A Master's degree in counseling, student personnel services, human resources, or a related field.
* Two (2) years of direct service experience in student services, human resources, personal counseling, career counseling or career services, academic advising, or a related area.
* One (1) year of experience using internet platforms to provide services and communications with students and/or clients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The career counseling may occasionally be asked to assist the manager with supervision of college work-study students.
