This senior position provides career counseling and career management education to students and alumni to help them become market- and employer-ready. This position does not typically have direct reports but may schedule, train, and supervise temporary staff or student workers. The core responsibility of this role is to provide career counseling to students and alumni, including assessment of student/alumni goals and interests, resume review, interview preparation, networking techniques, self-branding, and effective job/internship search tactics to ensure market and employer-readiness. This position uses coaching techniques and conducts mock interviews (behavioral and technical). This position also plays an integral role in the design, delivery, and management of career and professional development programs, seminars, and sessions (online and in-person), in order to educate students on career management methodology. Clover Place will be a new DESC housing site that will include 95 units of affordable housing in Seattle's Woodland neighborhood. This vital project will provide stable, supportive housing and 24/7 on-site services for single adults living with disabilities and experiencing chronic homelessness. The community will also feature welcoming indoor and outdoor common spaces.
JOB DEFINITION:
The Milieu Counselor is a key member of the on-site team, responsible for cultivating a safe, therapeutic, and welcoming environment for residents, internal/external stakeholders, and emergency responders. This role is centered on proactive resident engagement, building a sense of community, and providing direct support in shared and private living spaces. The Milieu Counselor promotes resident well-being by fostering a supportive community and helping individuals develop the skills necessary for long-term housing stability.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in shift briefs and read logs before the start of each shift daily
Provide front desk coverage when needed
Distribute client medication and serve food on shift
Assertively engage residents in the general milieu and common areas
Create a healthy and welcoming environment for residents which includes maintaining the general cleanliness of grounds and common areas. This includes conducting regular perimeter walk-throughs, enforcing good neighbor policy by ensuring individuals are not loitering outside of the building and on the property premises.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may be asked to participate in the training of new personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be certified as a Substance Abuse Disorder Professional by the State of Washington. Must not be under current investigation by the Depa1tment of Health or found in noncompliance with DOH ethical standards unless successfully pa1ticipating in a correction program with DOH with the agreement of the Squaxin Island Tribe. Experience working in an area of human services with Native American patients preferred.
