What you will be doing: As the Rural Airport Foreman in Bethel for the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, you'll play a vital role in keeping Alaska connected. You'll lead a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep and safe operation of rural highways, airports (including a certificated FAA Part 139 and TSA 1542 airport), seaplane floats, bridges, and docks.
Your days will be varied-overseeing snow removal operations, performing critical infrastructure inspections, managing airport compliance with FAA, TSA, and State regulations, and ensuring our transportation assets are fully functional for the public. Minimum Qualifications
Class A Commercial Driver's License;
AND
Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of highways and/or airports;

Qualifications to operate all required equipment at the duty station.

The Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS) at the University of Alaska Anchorage seeks a dynamic and experienced Invasive Plant Management Crew Leader to support plant identification and field documentation. The candidate will be responsible for identifying plant species and documenting their occurrence and distribution and record and assess field conditions, trends, and ecological correlations.
Invasive Plant Management: This will require the candidate to apply appropriate methods for invasive plant eradication and problem-solving. Safely store, handle and apply herbicides to target species.
Field Equipment & Safety: Requires operating and maintaining resource management tools and monitoring equipment; follow wilderness safety protocols an Leave No Trace principles.
Geospatial & Data Skills: Collect and manage GPS and GIS data using ESRI software.
Conduct quality control and assurance for geospatial datasets.
In addition to the required experience, the ideal candidate will have prior experience with applying herbicides to target invasive plants, working in remote field locations in Alaska, and has served as field crew leader or manager of a team. This will require an understanding of public land management framework, processes, and topical issues, to include demonstration of plant identification skills and data management. This role requires strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
The incumbent will work collaboratively with ACCS staff and the IMPT Liaison under general guidance with outlined assignments. The incumbent identifies work to be done to fulfill project requirements and objectives, plans and carries out the procedural and technical steps required, seeks assistance as needed, and submits completed work.
The work environment varies from office/laboratory settings in Anchorage to field sites in any of the National Parks in Alaska. During the summer season (June - August) the field work involves 10-day hitches, often in remote settings that are sometimes inaccessible by road and may require travel via bush plane, boat, or helicopter. No cell service and no internet access are typical. Expect tent camping or rustic cabins with minimal amenities.
The work performed in the field involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, biting insects, and wild animals. The incumbent is required to use protective clothing such as gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves. May be required to hike several miles in a day.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and six months experience in a field relevant to the research (e.g. science, math, business), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Relevant Fields: botany, ecology, biology, environmental science, or similar.
Incumbent must have or obtain a State of Alaska Certified Pesticide Applicator within 60 days of hire.

Under the direct supervision of the Transmission and Distribution ("T&D") Manager, employee works independently on assigned duties and responsibilities. The General Foreman directs and oversees the work of all Electric Department employees who are responsible for the transmission & distribution lines and substations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Supervises and schedules the work of the line crew and warehouseman
* Trains, assigns, prioritizes, supervises, motivates and evaluates the work of assigned employees
* Establishes, provides, and administers safety and training programs for the line crews
* Conducts Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue training, testing, and certification annually thereafter per OSHA §1910.269
* Schedules and supervises the work of contractors working on a capital project and contractors working on an emergency call-out
* Reviews and approves contractor daily and weekly job reports and invoices
* Responds to power outages to safely secure the work area(s) and schedules and supervises on-call contractors performing emergency repairs
* Supervises or coordinates switching procedures during power outages and emergencies
* Processes requests for electric service installations, plans the work required to extend the electric system to serve new customers, obtains the necessary easements and permits, prepares cost estimates, orders materials, schedules the work and follow-up to ensure the work is done on time and on budget
* Receives and investigates trouble calls, assigns the work, and provides follow-up to ensure the affected customers are kept informed and that the reported trouble is resolved

Our lodges are located on a beautiful remote island in Southeast Alaska and serve a buffet of locally caught salmon, Alaskan Crab, and Prime Rib to guests arriving aboard our custom-built tour vessels.
All crew members pull inventory and supplies every morning and are transported by vessel to and from the Island each day.
