A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A DISTRIBUTION AND COLLECTIONS MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER Under general supervision, work with and provide direction to a crew engaged in the repair and maintenance of the City's water and sewer system. Supervisory Functions: Lead the work activities of assigned crew in Water & Sewer Line Maintenance. Carries out crew leader responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Essential Functions: Regular and timely attendance at work. Direct the work activities of assigned subordinate personnel; schedule and review the work activities of assigned crew; perform work with workers supervised. Interpret policies to workers; support and enforce safety regulations. Maintain and service water lines by digging up and exposing water main lines for repair. Perform water and sewer taps; replace meters, and repair manholes as needed. Provide maintenance to fire hydrants by flushing out system, cleaning and/or replacing old parts, and painting hydrant. Ensure that worksite is properly secured according to safety standards by setting up barricades in and around site. Clean up area around excavation replacing sand and sod. Inspect and maintain assigned equipment by checking lights, fluids, brakes; keep oiled and greased; clean, and in good working condition. Report any and all problems as soon as they are noticed; maintain daily work orders and prepare daily work reports. Provide communication to supervisor of all unsafe conditions on the job. Analyze and resolve work problems or assists workers in solving work problems. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Licenses: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Six (6) years of experience in the maintenance of water lines, preferred. Some experience in directing the activities of subordinate personnel, preferred. May substitute any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed herein.     More information about this job The Carpenter General Foreman oversees and coordinates the daily operations of civil construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and timelines. The role involves supervising crews, managing resources, and liaising with project managers and subcontractors. Must be familiar with work assigned and ensure that all work meets or exceeds standards accountability for crew. Responsible for the motivation of their assigned employees and will support his/her immediate supervisor in any possible manner to effectively perform their duties. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting. Responsibilities * The following are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position. * Supervise and coordinate activities of civil construction crews including earthworks, concrete, drainage, storm water and structural works * Supervise and set direction for all Foreman and Leadmen on-site to ensure best use of company resources; and adherence to all company policies and state and federal regulations * Provide formal coaching feedback to Foreman * Schedule equipment, materials and tools to effectively utilize all resources and to maximize production and minimize costs after becoming familiar with scope of work and site conditions and collaborate with Civil Superintendent on all scheduled activities * Manage, coach, train and implement standardized work plans and assist Civil Superintendent in process improvement efforts * Manage and maintain responsibility for safe working conditions and safety procedures on the project, more particularly for specific discipline. * Understand and enforce company, jobsite specific, federal, and state safety regulations on site and addresses any concerns with Civil superintendent * The General Foreman will be accountable project construction activities and communicating the expectations to craftsman, subcontractors, and vendors * Maintain records of labor and equipment production and compare it to the estimate * Communicate with the Civil Superintendent concerning any cost over runs and utilization of the company resources * Mentor Foreman on the work discipline such as production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety * Maintain and update all crew and equipment matrixes * Responsible for holding crew members and foreman accountable for company and project rules * Make sure that all Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practices are followed * Must be familiar with mix designs and the curing process for concrete * Responsible for conducting weekly/quarterly safety and quality audits * Have an advance knowledge of the QC process as it pertains to check out process * Will be responsible for receiving permits to support the work being performed Qualifications Physical * Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. * Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions * Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work * Will operate office equipment of all types * Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds * Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis * Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting * Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator * Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. * Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.) * Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus * Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed Mental * Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision and field workers * Talking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy * Ability to use math/complete calculations * Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions * Decision making skills necessary * Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details * Requires strong leadership and motivational skills
