General Summary The Grading Foreman is responsible for coordinating, directing, and supervising crew(s) and subcontractors involved in safely, efficiently, and timely completing various heavy civil construction projects, including but not limited to earth moving, mass earthwork and grading. Essential Job Accountabilities Collaborate with Superintendent and/or Project management team to schedule materials, equipment, and work for the crew. Complete required documentation and reports including but not limited to, crew timecards, daily reports, logs, incident reports and safety documentation. Lead daily communication and safety meetings with crew regarding expectations, changes, and other information. Enforce and comply with all Company safety policies, procedures, and practices. Train and mentor crew members to enhance their skills and knowledge. Support employee counseling and performance appraisals. Timely address safety and other job site concerns and issues with employees. Monitor job site and crew safety to ensure work is being completed in compliance with project specification and safety standards. Communicate with project management team regarding any delays, changes and/or emergencies at the job sites. Actively inspect work site for potential health and safety hazards. Maintain safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards and safety standards. Participate in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety and other skills. Perform other duties as required. Education High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience Work Experience Two (2) years of experience functioning as a Foreman/Supervisor and or Lead-level. Five (5) years of experience in site development and earthwork construction, preferred. Experience on all types of heavy equipment for moving dirt and performing site work, preferred. Heavy Civil Construction experience, preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledgeable in the areas of dirt work, including but not limited to clearing, excavation, embankment, grading, demolition, surveying, and finish grading. Knowledgeable in GPS grading and survey equipment (Trimble), preferred. Skills in basic computing and email (knowledge of Microsoft Office a plus). Strong communication and interpersonal skills (Bilingual a plus). Ability to work in a team setting. Ability to read and understand blueprint and construction plans, preferred. Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others. Ability to motivate employees and lead by example. Ability to work well under pressure and within project timelines. Ability to work cooperatively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment. Physical Demands: Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours). Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions. Ability to work in safety sensitive construction zones around large machinery and heavy equipment. The RACL will expand their role, learn leadership strategies, and assume management duties including filling in for the CL in project relations or completing paperwork when needed. While a standard ACL spends the entire field season paired with a CL on one crew, the RACL should expect to be moved between crews from hitch to hitch as needed to fill gaps, split hitches between crews, and spend a mix of time in the field and working with office staff to achieve other objectives. In the event of an ACL resigning, the RACL could be placed as permanent ACL on a specific crew for the remainder of the season. The RACL should be very flexible in scheduling, travel, and type of work performed week to week. Program Expectations: Commitment - AZCC participants must commit to all aspects of the program, including conservation projects, education, training, and other crew activities. Safety - All participants are required to participate in a culture of safety on their crew during all program activities by being aware of and adhering to program policies, as well as fostering an atmosphere of wellness in the program. Professionalism - Participants must be willing to follow all AZCC policies, maintain professional boundaries, and appropriately represent AZCC. Position Overview The Crew Leader will work in collaboration with Forest Service staff to lead a small team of ACE Members in maintaining and improving recreation facilities, trails, and infrastructure throughout the Santa Catalina and Nogales and Rangers districts.
