Law Enforcement Officer (Trainee)

Overview:
The Law Enforcement Officer (Trainee) performs a variety of law enforcement and public safety functions within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). This is a trainee level position that requires a strong foundation in law enforcement principles and practices.
Responsibilities:

* Work under close supervision as a trainee within the division to which assigned

* Receive training in the duties described in the series concept

* Progress to the next level in the series upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the recommendation of the appointing authority

* Perform a variety of law enforcement and public safety functions, including patrolling, accident investigation, DUI enforcement, K-9 units, and motorcycle patrol

* Work varied shifts, including holidays, swing, and graveyard shifts

* Transfer to any area offices as personal or family needs change

Qualifications:

* Must have current Category 1 P.O.S.T. certificate

* Willingness to work varied shifts, including holidays, swing, and graveyard shifts

* Certification as a Category I Peace Officer from a Nevada P.O.S.T. approved law enforcement academy
