A Day in the Life of a Career Specialist
A Career Specialist identifies, recruits, and educates students who have difficulties between them and graduation while helping them make a successful transition from school to college, military, or career pathways with the use of the JAG model. These individuals develop positive relationships with students through utilizing the JAG Advantage of project-based learning, trauma informed care, and employer engagement to deliver student-centered programs with the goal of helping youth achieve their greatest potential.
These individuals instruct 35 to 60 students to ensure performance outcomes are met or exceeded utilizing project-based learning and JAG activities such as student conferences centered around career, civic, social, and service-learning, and career exploration. Career Specialists also deliver value-added instruction, support, and advocacy to graduates and non-graduates through follow-up services with students. Although this role may have its challenges, it can be very rewarding as positive relationships are developed with students and one sees the successful futures students go on to lead after they leave JAG-K.

The mission of the Fort Scott Public Schools is to lead in the SUCCESS of each student to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens.
Fort Scott has two elementary schools, Winfield Scott - grades K-2 and Eugene Ware - grades 3-5. Each school`s academic program emphasizes reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science. The children participate in physical education, vocal music, art, library, and computer labs.
Fort Scott also provides a Preschool Center. The special needs of developmentally delayed preschool children are met.
Fort Scott Middle School serves all district students in grades six, seven, and eight. A core curriculum of reading, language arts, social studies, math, and science is emphasized through a teaming approach.
Fort Scott High School is for students in grades nine through twelve. The curriculum features a college or career-ready curriculum in a student- centered focused environment. Students may choose from a variety of electives and enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs.

The questions of identity and belonging that all teens face grow even more challenging to answer amid starting over and meeting new friends at each location.

By being in their world, walking alongside them, and creating a community where they experience the truth of God s love and purpose for them, our staff provide a safe space where teens can develop friendships and connections to experience laughter, build hope, and generate resiliency.
We are currently providing incarnational ministry at many military installations around the world. You will have the opportunity to lead and oversee the overall Young Life Military program, known as Club Beyond, which is ecumenically focused and outreach oriented.
Responsibilities:
Actively develop healthy relationships with adults, as well as kids, and build vibrant relationships with the local community, the military installation, and the chapel community.
Be a role model (incarnational) and assist with developing community outreach to "unchurched" teens, discipleship to Christian teens, and leading and equipping volunteers to do "hands-on" middle and high school Christian youth programs.
Work well in an environment that sees (due to high military operational tempo) a high degree of turnover among teens, families, chaplains and volunteers.
Be respectful of and embrace a community that is deeply influenced by a military culture.

The House Director is responsible for the overall business operations of the House; including but not limited to the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, food service and safety/security of the House. The House Director exercises discretion and independent judgement, when comparing and evaluating various outcomes involving the business operations.
Requirements
Essential Functions
· Ensures a safe and productive environment for collegians and staff, including walking the property inside (multiple floors with stairs) and outside.
· Responds appropriately during all emergency situations and contacts appropriate parties.
· Creates a strategy for the long-term care and upkeep of the facility for the House Corporation Board.
· Obtains several detailed estimates for all work to be completed on the House.
· Keeps accurate records of maintenance repairs; including but not limited to roof, HVAC, security system, sprinkler system, plumbing and electrical.
· Communicates house maintenance issues to the House Corporation Board and coordinates all routine maintenance issues in a timely manner. Manages all minor repairs within agreed amount in a timely manner. Notifies House Corporation Board of major repairs that exceed agreed amount with estimates that need to be done. Reports immediately to the House Corporation Board all hazards and damages that require insurance claims.
· Stays within the given budget for ad hoc expenses; reconciles receipts and purchase orders; reviews and submits for payment through appropriate party.
· Purchase's kitchen, cleaning and other necessary supplies while maintaining inventory.
· Collaborates with the Chef and the collegians to plan nutritious meals within the budget.
· Manages employees including but not limited to, hiring, completing performance evaluations, approving payroll, employee relations, etc.
· Manages multiple preferred service providers to resolve issues while staying within budget.
· Remains with all visitors at all times including service providers.
· Keeps the House Corporation informed of any inspection by insurance adjusters, fire department, government agencies, or others concerned with the maintenance, security, and safety of the House.
· Assists the Director of House Management with the required fire drills and other required inspections; specifically seeking out any damage to the House.
· Communicates regularly any unusual trends, activities and/or problems with the chapter to the Chapter Advisor (ATC).
· Meets regularly with the House Manager and attends any meetings with chapter members and/or boards as necessary.
· Opens and closes the House before and after each break in conjunction with the university academic schedule.
· Reviews, and processes invoices timely per the Accounts Payable guidelines.
· Uploads receipts, provides an expense description, and assigns G/L account numbers timely on the Fraternity Housing Corporation credit provider website.
· Must reside in the chapter house each night the collegians are in residence.
· Adheres to university, House Corporation Board, Office of Housing and chapter policies and rules.
Non-Essential Functions
· Assists the House Corporation with managing/reviewing the fixed asset inventory list in November and May every year.
· Approve timecards in a timely manner.
· Secures staff substitutes as needed.
· Arranges for meals as needed.
· Serves as a hostess, as requested, for the chapter social events, such as recruitment.
· The House Director is required to check on the House periodically during House closures.
· All other duties as assigned.
Experience Previous house director or property management experience preferred.
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical experience Must be able to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, email and scanning.
Travel Minimal local travel.
