Systems Engineers will coordinate between various departments - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software, Joby Test Team, Flight Test, Manufacturing, and Operations - as necessary to ensure the technical success of their system(s). Systems Engineers will work closely with FAA Engineers and Joby DERs to ensure their responsible system(s) comply with all federal airworthiness regulations.
This position requires a basic understanding of aircraft systems, system development, and industry-specific certification processes. The most important traits at Joby are a positive attitude toward the project, a strong work ethic, and the ability to self-manage and learn new skills. The Systems Engineer - Mechanical will be responsible for some or all systems related to:

Responsibilities
Generate, review, approve, and manage system requirements - including but not limited to regulatory, safety, human factors, design, environmental, manufacturing, quality, operational, and service requirements
Serve as the system-level focal point for integration and coordination activities with various departments and the certification authorities
Participate in multi-disciplinary design reviews throughout the different phases of development, certification, and production readiness as required to coordinate and communicate system design projects
Assist with trade studies, analyses, and test programs as necessary to validate system architectures meet all requirements
Generate and/or review:
System safety analyses, such as FHAs, FTAs, CCAs, etc.
Engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications
Engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications
System and equipment test plans and reports
Compliance documentation
System engineering processes
Coordinate as required to execute and manage system design projects, testing, certification, production readiness, etc.
Work with various company departments to ensure equipment and low-level designs meet all system and aircraft-level requirements.
Various project management tasks as required.

Required
3+ years experience of relevant industry experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering preferred
A passion for aircraft, engineering and electric air transportation
Self-starter and able to learn on the job
Skilled at creating and reviewing technical schematics, logical and functional diagrams, and engineering specifications
Excellent problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills
Basic knowledge of FAA regulations and guidance material and industry standards
Proficient in English

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $135,100 - $180,200/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

The Integrated Flight and Propulsion Control System includes all the primary flight control functions (pilot inceptors, flight sensors, processing and communications, control laws, and control effectors) and some vehicle management functions.
This position offers the opportunity to apply a broad range of systems engineering skills with responsibilities from requirements to certification. The program is currently in the late Detailed Design Phase, and your accountability will be in aspects of integration, design validation and verification, failure modes and effects and analyses of system response, and preparation of certification artifacts.

* Involvement in writing, conducting validation analyses and reviews, and validating all levels of the system requirements
* Supporting design teams in trade studies, subsystem interface definition, requirements flow-down, development analyses, modeling and simulation activities, and assessment of results

Perform tooling prep operations in preparation for lamination.
Prepare and organize composite materials in preparation for lamination.
