John Paul II High School company history timeline

2005

In 2005, an official planning committee was formed with representatives from four feeder schools and began the real work of creating a school: the mission and vision first, then curriculum, and outreach.

2006

September 6, 2006: Bishop Loverde and Doctor Timothy McNiff, Superintendent of Schools, lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the new school.

2007

May 16, 2007: Sister Mary Jordan Hoover, O.P. named first Principal of the new school; Temporary office is established at Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City.

Early in 2007, the group met with Archbishop Gomez to get his blessing to open as a Catholic school.

2008

August 16, 2008: Pope John Paul the Great chapel dedicated by Bishop Loverde during private inaugural Mass.

In 2008, it was announced that Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School and St Pius X High School would close, and the school communities would merge into a modern, state-of-the-art high school in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, about halfway between Norristown and Pottstown.

2014

May 13, 2014: Bishop Paul S. Loverde (Ret.) grants permission to change the school's name to Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School.

2015

In August 2015 a new chapter began when the School changed its name to better reflect both the status of its namesake and its changing role in the community.
