From its beginnings, John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois, has provided specialized career education. At John Wood's Workforce Development Center, students may get training in a short amount of time to become a truck driver, electrician, fire fighter or restaurant manager, to name a few. John Wood's longer-term associate's degree and diploma programs certify and prepare student to work in such areas as: *Graphic Design *Early Childhood Education *Office Technology *Nursing *Law Enforcement *Physics John Wood's degree preparatory program has also expanded in recent years to include diverse subject majors. Students have the option of getting an associate's degree that will prepare them to major in fine arts and science-oriented disciplines at the bachelor's level. An application, a high school diploma or GED and transcripts from all schools attended are required from the admissions office. For those who have yet to take the required math and English courses, a Compass Test will be administered and is used for class-placement purposes only. Federal aid awards like grants and loans are available to students who meet requirements. Additionally, students may apply for state financial aid. John Wood also provides information on private scholarships and awards veteran's benefits.
