Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital company history timeline

1926

American Legion members sign a charter in December 1926 to create a new facility and new approach to community health focused on compassionate pediatric care, provided without regard for race, religion or ability to pay.

Founded in 1926, Johns Hopkins All Children’s was the first children’s hospital in the state of Florida.

1934

In 1934, Lloyd Gullickson partnered with Babe Didrikson in a charity golf match against Glenna Collett-Vare and Babe Ruth which they won quite easily.

1950

The new facility opens on Lakeview Avenue South in 1950 and includes operating rooms, with care provided by residents in orthopaedics.

1965

Construction began on the new facility in 1965 on land acquired from the City of St Petersburg.

1967

All Children’s Hospital opens its doors at 801 Sixth Street S., St Petersburg, in 1967.

1989

The first USF endowed chair is established at All Children’s Hospital in 1989 by Ann and Andrew H. Hines Jr.

1991

Growth continues on the All Children’s Hospital campus, with a $20 million expansion completed in 1991 adding inpatient units and a larger outpatient surgery area.

1992

One of the hospital’s most influential nursing leaders is chief nursing officer (CNO) Betty Keith, who retires in 1992.

2005

In 2005, All Children's broke ground on construction of a 240-bed hospital and adjoining outpatient facility.

2010

The new hospital, designed for optimal healing, opens in January 2010.

2011

In 2011, All Children's Hospital joined the Johns Hopkins Health System as a fully integrated member of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

2016

Also in 2016, it broke ground on a $95-million Research and Education Building, which will become home to the institutes, house a new pediatric biorepository, provide lab and simulation training space, and encourage collaboration among clinicians, researchers, faculty and trainees.

In 2016, the organization changed its name to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and celebrated its 90th anniversary.

2018

It will open in the fall of 2018.
